According to a VNA correspondent in Havana, these days, Cuban media have continuously published many articles expressing gratitude and remembrance for General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, highlighting his theoretical and practical thoughts on socialism and the world revolutionary movement.

The July 25 issue of the daily newspaper Juventud Rebelde (Youth Rebellion) devoted the entire third page to reporting on the sentiments of the leaders of the Party, State and people of Cuba towards General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

Prominent on the front page of this issue is the large headline “Cuba commemorates a Vietnamese friend.”

Occupying the entire front page of the issue, in an article entitled “The deepest gratitude to a Vietnamese brother,” Juventud Rebelde - the voice of Cuban youth - said that First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and President of the Republic of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and the highest leaders of the Party and Government of the country visited General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong at the Vietnamese Embassy in Havana early in the morning of July 24.

Condolences to Vietnamese Ambassador to Cuba Le Quang Long and all the Vietnamese people, the President of Cuba and Politburo members, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz; Permanent Secretary of the Secretariat, Head of the Central Organizing Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba Roberto Morales Ojeda; Vice President Salvador Valdés Mesa; Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla; and Vice President of the National Assembly Ana María Mari Machado expressed their most sincere gratitude to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

President Díaz-Canel affirmed that the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, a close friend and tireless promoter of the special relationship of friendship, brotherhood and mutual trust between the Cuban and Vietnamese peoples, is an irreplaceable loss for the Cuban people.

Writing in the condolence book, the Cuban President wrote: “In this moment of sorrow, we are completely convinced that the contributions of comrade Nguyen Phu Trong will forever be imprinted in the career of the Party and the people of Vietnam. Forever remembering our sincere friend!”

For his part, Ambassador Le Quang Long emphasized that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is the only Vietnamese leader to have visited the heroic island of Cuba five times in different positions. General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong always understands, sympathizes with and is ready to support Cuba; he thanked the Cuban leaders and people for their affection for the Party, State and people of Vietnam, as well as General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong himself.

Cuba is the first country to declare a three-day memorial for General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, a testament to the special brotherhood between the two peoples.

The Cuban Prime Minister affirmed that the Caribbean island nation “stands with the Party, the Government and all the people of Vietnam in this moment of extreme pain,” while Vice President Valdés Mesa tearfully shared memories of his friend and comrade Nguyen Phu Trong, “an extraordinary personality.”

The daily Juventud Rebelde recalled General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's visits to Cuba, especially his trip to Santiago de Cuba in March 2018 to commemorate his friend and historic leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro Ruz.

Also in the issue published on July 25, Juventud Rebelde reported that Politburo member, President of the National Assembly and Council of State of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernández came to Vietnam to attend the State Funeral and on behalf of Cuban leader Raúl Castro Ruz; First Secretary of the Party Central Committee, President of the Republic Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and all Cuban people sent their most sincere condolences.

Like many other senior Cuban leaders, President of the National Assembly and Council of State Esteban Lazo Hernández has many personal memories of "my dear brother and comrade Nguyen Phu Trong, the stronghold of friendship and cooperation between Cuba and Vietnam."

During discussions and contacts with Vietnamese leaders, President of the National Assembly and Council of State Esteban Lazo Hernández repeatedly affirmed: "As brothers, Cuba feels this pain as its own loss."

Previously, on July 22, the day Cuba declared a national day of mourning for General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the daily newspaper Granma - the mouthpiece of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and many other daily publications of this brotherly island nation simultaneously changed their traditional color to black.

On this day, public buildings and military headquarters across Cuba also fly flags at half-mast and no public entertainment activities are held.

The daily newspaper Granma devoted the entire page 8 of its July 22 issue to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's advice on the important role of youth, the core force of the nation.

The article quotes many passages from the speech of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at the ceremony commemorating the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (March 26, 1931 - March 26, 2021).

Cuban media highlighted the role and influence of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in the special Vietnam-Cuba relationship. General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has visited Cuba five times, meeting, sharing and working with Cuba's top leaders. Each visit has further strengthened the relationship with the leaders of the Party, State and people of Cuba.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is a close friend of many of Cuba's top leaders, such as Comrade Fidel Castro, Raul Castro, as well as the current generation of leaders.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong was awarded the José Martí Medal, Cuba's highest honor, by the Cuban Party and State in 2012 in recognition of his outstanding contributions to developing solidarity and friendship between the two Parties, States and peoples of Vietnam and Cuba.

The General Secretary was also awarded an honorary doctorate (Doctor Honoris Causa) in Political Science by the University of Havana in 2018./.
