Fake food does not explode, does not cause bleeding, but the consequences are far-reaching. It passes gently through the throat, wearing a coat of peace, leaving helpless in those who once believed in a “nutritional” product.

The two cases of Kera candy and fake milk worth 500 billion VND are not food industry incidents. They are alarming signs that a new type of crime is operating as an organized commercial model. The people behind it do not need force or guns, but still cause deep damage to the health and trust of millions of people with seemingly harmless declarations, packaging and introductions.

With Kera candy, the product is promoted as a “modern vegetable solution”, but each pill contains only 0.016g of fiber, instead of the 28% as announced. Meanwhile, it contains up to 33% Sorbitol, a substance with strong laxative effects, easily causing digestive disorders, especially dangerous for young children if used incorrectly. However, Kera candy still appears frequently in marketing campaigns, promoted as a healthy, safe choice.

The fake milk case that occurred at Rance Pharma International Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company and Hacofood Group Nutrition Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company was just busted by the Ministry of Public Security . The milk boxes labeled “high-end”, “for pregnant women, premature babies, diabetics” were widely distributed throughout the market, as shown in a video of the production unit advertising, up to 5,000,000 boxes per year.

However, the test results showed that there was no bird's nest, no cordyceps, no macca as promised. Many products only achieved less than 70% of the declared target. For patients, pregnant women and children, this is no longer a technical error but a blatant deception.

Initial information released shows that the incident was not simply a case of product fraud. It was a well-designed scenario, from raw materials, labeling, ingredient declaration, testing, to communication and distribution; it was an organized crime that degraded the human race to fill greedy pockets.

According to Article 193 of the 2015 Penal Code, amended in 2017, the act of producing and trading in counterfeit food products can be punished with up to life imprisonment if it causes serious harm to human health or life. Currently, the investigation agency has prosecuted and clarified the individuals involved in the two cases mentioned above.

But the big question remains: How to prevent the appearance of more "new Keras" and other "fake milks"?

No one wants a mother to have to choose between her child’s health and an advertising claim. No one wants to lose faith in a product that is supposed to be nutritious, but is actually an industrial fabrication.

Therefore, what is needed is not only prosecution and sentences. It is also necessary to re-establish the entire system of control and accountability. At the same time, it is necessary to tighten post-control; to increase sanctions for acts of false announcement; to clearly define legal responsibilities for celebrities who participate in marketing products that are not true.

A corrupt ecosystem cannot be blamed on one individual. Those who sign the certification, issue the declaration, print the labels, and livestream the promotion must also be brought under control. Legal responsibility should not stop at the manufacturer, but must be extended to all links that contribute to bringing counterfeit products to the market.

That “crime” needs to be called by its right name. It needs to be dealt with severely, not to suppress a group of people, but to purify a broken morality. Not just for today’s milk cartons or candy, but for tomorrow’s children. For a species that cannot continue to live on the illusion of “nutrition”.

The two cases of Kera candy and fake milk worth 500 billion VND are not simply commercial fraud, but organized crimes aimed at poisoning the community, destroying trust, and corrupting business ethics.
