Coffee prices have increased slightly

At the London floor at 5:00 a.m. on May 23, 2025, Robusta coffee prices ended the session with a sharp downward trend, the decrease fluctuated between 95 - 133 USD/ton compared to the previous session, currently at 4,691 - 4,919 USD/ton. Specifically, the price for the July 2025 delivery period is currently 4,779 USD/ton; September 2025 is 4,765 USD/ton; November 2025 is 4,739 USD/ton and January 2026 is 4,690 USD/ton.

On the New York floor, Arabica coffee in the early morning of May 23 also recorded a clear decrease with a decrease of 7.55 - 9.30 cents/lb compared to the previous session, ranging from 347.20 - 361.00 cents/lb. Specifically, the July 2025 term recorded 361.00 cents/lb; September 2025 was 358.65 cents/lb; December 2025 reached 354.20 cents/lb and March 2026 was at 349.10 cents/lb.

In the Brazilian Arabica coffee market, the closing price fluctuated slightly between delivery terms compared to the previous day, ranging from 427.90 - 470.00 USD/ton. Specific prices include 457.25 USD/ton for May 2025; 459.00 USD/ton for July 2025; 447.80 USD/ton for September 2025 and 430.60 USD/ton for December 2025.

In the Central Highlands region, updated at 5:00 a.m. on May 23, 2025, domestic coffee prices increased slightly by 100 - 200 VND/kg compared to before.

Currently, the average coffee purchase price in key provinces is recorded at 125,200 VND/kg.

Coffee prices in Dak Lak today are 125,200 VND/kg; in Lam Dong, it is 124,700 VND/kg; in Gia Lai, it is 125,000 VND/kg and in Dak Nong, it is 125,300 VND/kg.

Experts say the current drop in coffee prices is due to many negative factors at the same time.
After a sharp price increase earlier this month, investors took profits, putting downward pressure on the coffee market.

In addition, favorable weather conditions in Brazil – the leading coffee exporter – have increased expectations of abundant supplies, especially as the Robusta harvest season has begun.

In addition to weather factors, the appreciation of the US dollar against the Brazilian Real has made the country's coffee exports more attractive in the international market. This has encouraged Brazilian farmers to increase sales, putting further pressure on prices on the exchanges.

On the other hand, although investment funds still hold large net buying positions, trading volumes are gradually shrinking. This trend reflects a cautious sentiment returning to the market in the context of the upcoming Brazilian winter, often accompanied by unpredictable climate fluctuations.

In Vietnam, according to a report from the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association (VICOFA), in the first half of May 2025, the total volume of robusta coffee exports reached nearly 63,000 tons, earning about 345 million USD, an increase of 83% in volume and 155% in value compared to the same period in 2024.

One notable point is the strong rise of foreign-invested enterprises in the field of exporting green coffee. The market share of this group of enterprises has increased sharply to nearly 40%, compared to the previous level of fluctuating around 30%.

In particular, Louis Dreyfus Company Vietnam (LDC) has taken the leading position in coffee exports. Meanwhile, two domestic enterprises, Intimex and Vinh Hiep, have dropped to third and fourth place, respectively.

Pepper prices remain stable

At 5:00 a.m. on May 23, 2025, the domestic pepper market still had no clear price fluctuations, continuing to stabilize at a high level. The current average pepper price in key areas reached 151,200 VND/kg.

Specifically, in Gia Lai , pepper prices today remain unchanged compared to the previous day's slight adjustment, currently being purchased at 150,000 VND/kg.

In Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Binh Phuoc , pepper prices remain stable compared to yesterday, currently the purchase price is 151,000 VND/kg in both localities.

In Dak Lak and Dak Nong, pepper prices remained unchanged from the previous session, continuing to fluctuate at 152,000 VND/kg.

Data from the International Pepper Community (IPC) updated at 5:00 a.m. on May 23, 2025 showed that pepper markets in many countries remained stable; only Indonesia continued to increase prices compared to the previous session.

Specifically, the price of Indonesian Lampung black pepper is currently at 7,421 USD/ton, while the price of Muntok white pepper is purchased at 10,119 USD/ton.

The Malaysian pepper market has no fluctuations, currently the price of ASTA black pepper is listed at 9,200 USD/ton and ASTA white pepper at 11,900 USD/ton.

In Brazil, pepper prices remained stable, trading around $6,650/ton as in the previous session.

The Vietnamese market alone continues to maintain stability, with the export price of 500 g/l black pepper at 6,700 USD/ton, 550 g/l at 6,800 USD/ton, and white pepper currently at 9,700 USD/ton.

By mid-May, domestic pepper prices had decreased compared to the previous month, with a decrease ranging from 4,500 - 6,000 VND/kg. Currently, pepper prices are commonly around 151,000 - 152,000 VND/kg.

According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), the domestic market has not shown clear motivation to increase prices due to weak purchasing power and the wait-and-see mentality of traders.
A report from Ptexim also showed that domestic pepper prices fell last week due to reduced demand in major markets such as the US and China, but the European market is showing positive signs of recovery.

On the farmers' side, although prices have partially recovered, growers are still not interested in expanding their acreage. Currently, prices are not attractive enough to offset production risks, causing many households to switch to crops with higher economic value such as durian and avocado.

In addition, the shortage of agricultural land continues to be a major barrier to expanding pepper growing areas.
