From a pioneering land to a modern city, Dong Nai City

(PLVN) - At the moment fireworks lit up the sky over Dong Nai on the evening of May 18th, when Party and State leaders announced the National Assembly's Resolution on the establishment of Dong Nai City and received the First-Class Labor Medal; overwhelming emotions welled up in the hearts of officials and people of Dong Nai.

After merging with Binh Phuoc, Dong Nai has over 5 million inhabitants, the third most populous city in the country after Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City; an area of nearly 13,000 km2, ranking ninth nationwide; and an economic scale of approximately 700,000 billion VND. Dong Nai became the seventh centrally-governed city, along with Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Da Nang, Can Tho, and Hue.

In the spring of 1698 (the year of the Earth Tiger), Lord Nguyen Huu Canh led an expedition to the South, establishing the Tran Bien garrison, stabilizing the administrative apparatus, encouraging land reclamation and the construction of the bustling Cu Lao Pho trading port, and establishing territorial sovereignty ; laying the foundation for the reclamation and expansion of the South. From then on, Tran Bien - Bien Hoa - Dong Nai was not just a name throughout history, not just an administrative place name, but also a sacred symbol of the Southern land; a place where many cultures intersected, a convergence of historical values; forging the spirit of Dong Nai: courage, loyalty, generosity, faithfulness, and hospitality.

Throughout the history of nation-building and national defense, generations of people in Dong Nai have poured their sweat and effort into reclaiming land, shedding blood to protect their homeland, and demonstrating unwavering love for their country. During the resistance against foreign invaders, Dong Nai was a steadfast revolutionary land, with the Phu Rieng Red area in 1930, the cradle of the Vietnamese revolutionary workers' movement; it was the Zone D War Zone, a resilient revolutionary base in the southeastern region; and it was Xuan Loc, where countless revolutionary soldiers and civilians fell as they concentrated their efforts on breaking through the enemy's last line of defense, allowing our troops to advance and liberate Saigon, unifying the country in April 1975.

In this land, patriotism, a strong will to succeed, and a philosophy of life characterized by diligence, compassion, and humanity have continued to leave their mark on the reform, innovation, and economic development. Dong Nai is the industrial capital of the country, a place where "good land attracts good people," drawing millions of workers from all over the country to work and live, considering Dong Nai their second home. Along with the development of new projects and models such as the Nhon Trach urban area, Long Thanh International Airport, and a modern transportation system; coupled with outstanding cultural and historical features; and abundant and valuable natural resources… Dong Nai has proven to be an important growth pole of the country, developing in a green, sustainable direction, harmonizing industry, urbanization, services, and ecological conservation.

Looking back at nearly 330 years of formation and development, from a barren, swampy land, through diligent hands and a spirit of self-reliance and self-improvement, generations of ancestors transformed wild forests into fertile fields, and sparsely populated villages into prosperous and bustling residential areas. From that foundation, Dong Nai today has a new face, becoming a centrally-governed city. This is not only a joy at its new status, but also a source of pride because the Party, the State, and the people of the whole country have recognized Dong Nai's efforts; it is a driving force for the Party Committee, the government, and the people of Dong Nai City to become increasingly united, innovative, creative, and strive for new heights.
