Macadamia trees were planted experimentally in Tuan Giao district since 2013. By 2016, macadamia trees were planted more with an area of ​​up to hundreds of hectares in the form of association between people and investors. After a period of planting and care, in recent years, some macadamia areas have begun to yield harvests with good quality fruit and high economic value. The income from macadamia trees opens up a direction in choosing crops to help people reduce hunger and poverty, and increase income.

Secretary of Tuan Giao District Party Committee Lo Van Cuong shared: Macadamia trees have a lifespan of hundreds of years, not only have the effect of greening barren land and hills, but also bring high economic value to growers, with large market demand. After deducting costs, macadamia can generate an income of 120 - 130 million VND/ha/year, many times higher than growing corn and cassava. This is a crop that is considered suitable for the district's area, can help people eliminate hunger, reduce poverty and become rich. Therefore, the district identifies developing the area of ​​macadamia trees in the area as a major policy, a top priority task of the entire political system from the district to the grassroots level.

Tuan Giao district has actively promoted and mobilized people to convert ineffective crop areas to macadamia trees; instructed people on techniques for digging holes, planting and caring for macadamia trees; mobilized cadres, soldiers, youth union members, and association members to help households dig holes and transport fertilizers to plant macadamia trees. Implementing the national target program on socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, and sustainable poverty reduction, the district has deployed support for seedlings and fertilizers to help people expand the area of ​​macadamia trees.

The district organized meetings and direct dialogues with the people to listen to their opinions, thoughts and aspirations. The Secretary of the District Party Committee and the Chairman of the District People's Committee both attended the meeting to inform about the development orientation of macadamia trees; answer questions and difficulties of the people in the process of planting and caring for macadamia trees, especially technical processes, care time, harvesting, consumption, etc. To ensure the consumption market, the district signed a memorandum of understanding with TH Group . Accordingly, Tuan Giao district committed to creating all conditions according to regulations for the Group and its member units to implement the macadamia planting project in the area. In return, TH Group committed to purchasing all macadamia products of the district for 50 years.

Mr. Le Xuan Canh, Chairman of Tuan Giao District People's Committee affirmed: With the participation of the entire political system and the consensus of the people, the macadamia growing area in Tuan Giao district is constantly expanding. In 2022, the district planted 150 hectares of macadamia; by 2023, the district planted nearly 1,700 hectares of macadamia with the participation of 2,800 households. Currently, the macadamia growing area is growing and developing well, the survival rate of trees is over 90%. Thereby, it has created a clear change in the implementation of agricultural restructuring in the district, creating a direction for hunger eradication, poverty reduction, and sustainable enrichment for the people in the area.

Tuan Giao district aims to have over 8,000 hectares of macadamia by the end of 2025, with each household owning an average of 100 macadamia trees, creating jobs for tens of thousands of workers and bringing stable income to the people. In 2024, Tuan Giao district has promoted and mobilized 5,500 households to register to grow macadamia, bringing the total number of households participating in macadamia cultivation in the district to nearly 8,000 households, accounting for nearly 50% of the agricultural population in the area. The total area registered for new macadamia planting this year is 3,300 hectares. Up to now, the district has completed digging holes, mixing manure to fill the holes and distributing seedlings to people in the communes. By the end of June 2024, the district strives to complete planting 3,300 hectares of macadamia, ensuring proper techniques and seasons. After the new planting season in 2024, the macadamia area in the district will increase to more than 6,000 hectares, making Tuan Giao district the locality with the largest macadamia area in the country.

At the 2024 macadamia planting festival and the workshop on the development orientation of macadamia and coffee trees organized by Tuan Giao district on May 23, Provincial Party Secretary Tran Quoc Cuong highly appreciated the direction and approach of Tuan Giao district. The results of macadamia planting in the district are evidence of the determination and effectiveness in the leadership and direction of the district Party Committee and government, the participation and response of organizations, unions, businesses and people in implementing the province's policies.
