Vietnam women's team wins big against Cambodia in the opening match of AFF Cup 2025

On the evening of August 6, at Lach Tray Stadium (Hai Phong), the Vietnamese women's team easily defeated weak opponent Cambodia with a score of 6-0, in the opening match of the 2025 Southeast Asian Championship (AFF Cup).

The match between the Vietnamese and Cambodian women's teams in Group A - the group stage of the 2025 Southeast Asian Women's Football Championship took place with the host Vietnam completely dominating the game. In the 7th minute, from Bich Thuy's free kick that hit the crossbar, Duong Thi Van quickly rushed in to head the ball to open the score 1-0 for the Vietnamese women's team.

Just 5 minutes later, in the 12th minute, the gap was doubled. Ngan Thi Van Su scored a masterpiece with an impressive one-touch shot, the ball went so dangerously that the Cambodian goalkeeper could not stop it even though he touched the ball. The attacking speed of the Vietnamese women's team did not stop.

In the 14th minute, the referee determined that a Cambodian player had handled the ball in the penalty area, and on the 11m mark, Hai Yen easily fooled the goalkeeper to increase the score to 3-0. The fourth goal came just 3 minutes later, in the 17th minute, with a confident long-range shot by Nguyen Thi Van, sending the ball past the Cambodian goalkeeper. The first half ended with a score of 4-0 in favor of the Vietnamese women's team.

In the second half, the Vietnamese women's team continued to maintain their attacking style, but with a decreasing intensity. However, they still scored more goals. In the 51st minute, Ngan Thi Van Su escaped to the sideline and had a favorable pass back for Truc Huong to run in and finish coolly, raising the score to 5-0. In the 60th minute, Huynh Nhu had a perfect cross for Thai Thi Thao to run in and head the ball close to the goal, raising the score to 6-0.

In the final minutes of the match, the Vietnamese women's team still had more chances but could not score more goals. Winning 6-0 over Cambodia, the Vietnamese women's team temporarily ranked second in Group A after the first match. In the early match, the Thai women's team defeated the Indonesian women's team with a score of 7-0.
