Many concerns
According to Tuoi Tre, many cases of admission to grades 1 and 6 this year are in a dilemma. Among them, many cases in category 2 do not know where to go after June 30 if the admission results are not available this month.
Ms. B. (HCMC), whose child was born in 2019, said that this year her child will enter first grade. Up to now, her child has been assigned to a school about 2.5km from her house (current residence), but she is "not satisfied" with this assignment because there is an elementary school closer to her house but her child was not assigned to it.
"My child's older siblings both studied at this primary school, but this year my youngest child, who is entering first grade, was not assigned to this school. Even though my house is only 1km away from the school. Is this the closest school to my current residence? June 15 is the deadline for confirming the admission results. If I do not confirm these results, will my child have a place to study when the Departmentof Education and Training has been "disbanded"?" Ms. B. wondered.
Also having a child entering grade 1 this year, Mr. A. registered his child for grade 1 admission in May at a school near his and his wife's workplace (in a different district from their current residence). However, on June 9, he received the result that his child was not admitted to the "special" elementary school where he registered his child's application. Up to now, Mr. A. is still keeping his child's grade 1 application under category 2 near his workplace and waiting for the result.
"If my child is not accepted into the school near my workplace, what should I do? Does the school near my home still have space and will it accept my child?" - Mr. A asked.
How to deal with "subject 2"?
According to the enrollment plan of Ho Chi Minh City, the enrollment of primary school levels of districts for the 2025-2026 school year will be basically implemented before June 30 with two subjects. Of which, subject 1 is the subject of priority allocation to schools near their current residence. Subject 2 is the case of students who wish to study at a school near their parents' workplace, study according to their wishes or other cases...
In previous years, if the first-level enrollment was not prioritized for group 2, it would be allocated to districts to arrange enough places for students, and this depended on the district-level enrollment steering committee. Because after the basic first-level enrollment, there were still many cases left without places to study, most of which would be group 2.
This year, what will happen to those who have not been assigned a place to study before June 30 when the district, county, education and training department, and the district's primary enrollment steering committee no longer exist?
Responding to this issue, Mr. Nguyen Thai Vinh Nguyen, Head of the Department of Education and Training of Thu Duc City, said that Thu Duc City has adjusted the time for enrollment at the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year with the desire to basically complete enrollment work before June 30, but despite efforts to carry out this work, it still cannot be fully completed before the date of dissolution of districts, towns and the Department of Education and Training.
"After June 30, the experts from the Department of Education and Training will be transferred to the People's Committees of wards in Thu Duc City. Therefore, after the arrangement and reorganization of administrative units at all levels and the formation of local authorities, the People's Committee of the ward will establish a steering committee for primary school enrollment to continue implementing enrollment work according to plan 5529, to ensure that 100% of school-age children can go to school," said Mr. Nguyen Thai Vinh Nguyen.
Mr. Tran Minh Kha, Deputy Head of the Department of Education and Training of Binh Tan District, also said that the district is urgently speeding up the enrollment work at the primary level to basically complete the enrollment work before June 30. "After June 30, there are still cases that need to be resolved in the primary level enrollment and the enrollment work will be carried out by the ward People's Committees," Mr. Kha informed.
On track
Speaking to Tuoi Tre, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training said that up to now, the enrollment work at the beginning of the school year in Ho Chi Minh City (grade 1, grade 6, 5-year-old kindergarten) has been carried out according to the set schedule. After June 30, the remaining issues will be resolved by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training in coordination with the People's Committees of the localities.
