Football Insider says Maeda wants to leave Scotland in the winter transfer window, hoping to play in the Premier League. Everton, Tottenham and Brentford are said to be keeping tabs on the Japanese international.
Maeda delayed signing a new contract with Celtic, which was due to run until June 2027. He is said to have had a conflict with the board and is seriously considering changing teams.
In the 2024/25 season, Maeda was the driving force that helped Celtic win the Scottish Premier League title, scoring 16 goals in 34 matches. However, this season, the Japanese international has only scored 4 goals in 17 matches.
Celtic are considering the opportunity to sell Maeda to collect a transfer fee, thereby investing in a more potential striker.
In August, Maeda became the villain when Celtic suffered a surprise 3-2 defeat on penalties against Kairat Almaty in the second leg of the final play-off round of the 2025/26 Champions League. He missed a great chance in the second half and then missed his fifth kick, costing Celtic a Champions League spot.
According to estimates from Opta , Celtic lost at least £50 million in revenue by not being able to participate in the Champions League qualifying stage this season.
