World Euro exchange rate today 5/3/2025
As of 4:30 AM this morning, the EUR/USD pair has attracted buying interest again and has risen above the psychological level of 1.1300. After three consecutive days of declines, the price has recovered from a two-week low around 1.1265 hit on Thursday, mainly due to investors adjusting their positions ahead of the release of important economic data from the Eurozone and the US.
European Central Bank (ECB) officials have recently signaled deflation risks, so markets are closely watching the preliminary Eurozone consumer price index (CPI).
If the data is weaker than expected, it would reinforce expectations for a 25 basis point rate cut by the ECB in July. In that scenario, the euro could remain under pressure and reverse the current rally in EUR/USD, especially after hitting its highest level since November 2021 at 1.1575 last month.
On the US side, April Non- Farm Payrolls (NFP) data is expected to show a slowdown in the labor market with only 130,000 new jobs, significantly lower than the previous month's 228,000. However, the unemployment rate is expected to remain at 4.2%.
This data can directly influence the policy direction of the US Federal Reserve (Fed) and thereby impact the strength of the USD as well as the performance of the EUR/USD pair.
Despite the prospect of deeper Fed rate cuts, the dollar has yet to fully capitalize on its three-day winning streak. Data this week showing the U.S. economy unexpectedly contracted for the first time since 2022 has led investors to bet more on the Fed cutting rates as many as four times this year, reducing the dollar’s appeal and supporting the euro’s recovery against the greenback.
