In the US market, the US Dollar Index (DXY) measuring the greenback's fluctuations against six major currencies (EUR, JPY, GBP, CAD, SEK, CHF) is currently at 97.87. In Vietnam, the central exchange rate of the Vietnamese Dong against the USD remains unchanged, currently at 25,128 VND.

The US dollar has shown steady strength over the past week amid pressure from trade policies and expectations about economic policy in the US.

The US dollar rose sharply against other major currencies earlier this week after US President Donald Trump announced new tariffs that would take effect from August 1 on a range of countries, including Japan and South Korea.

Mr. Trump posted letters to the leaders of several countries on his social media platform, announcing that he would impose 25% tariffs on Japan and South Korea. He also sent letters to the leaders of Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Myanmar, South Africa and Laos, stating tariffs roughly equivalent to those previously announced in April for each country.

On July 9, the USD continued to show its key strength in the context of geopolitical and trade uncertainties. US President Donald Trump sent a notice to impose a new 25% tax on imports from Japan, South Korea and new taxes on 12 other countries. The taxes are expected to take effect from August 1, but Mr. Trump also left open the possibility of extending it if partners propose new trade agreements.

The US dollar traded near a two-and-a-half week high against major currencies on July 10, largely due to the spillover effects of US President Donald Trump's new tariff policies.

By July 11, the dollar had risen against major currencies including the euro and the Swiss franc, as foreign exchange markets largely shrugged off President Donald Trump’s latest tariff announcements. The only exception was Brazil, where the real plunged after Trump threatened tariffs of up to 50%.

The US dollar rose against major currencies such as the Japanese yen and the euro on July 12 after US President Donald Trump reignited trade tensions by imposing new tariffs on Canada and other trading partners. On Thursday evening, Mr. Trump issued a letter announcing that a 35% tariff on all goods imported from Canada would take effect on August 1.

Thus, the USD has experienced a clear increase in value in the international market over the past week. Close monitoring of US policies, the reactions of central banks and developments in global financial markets will determine the next trend of the USD.
