The Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the USD against six major currencies (EUR, JPY, GBP, CAD, SEK, CHF), stopped at 100.60 - up 0.18 points compared to May 12, 2025.

The rise in the US dollar put the most pressure on safe-haven currencies such as the Japanese Yen and Swiss Franc, with the US dollar rising 1.9% against the Yen to 148.16 and 1.5% against the Swiss Franc to 0.8443.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against a basket of major currencies, rose 1.1% to its highest level in more than a month. Still, the greenback is 2.3% lower than when Trump announced the tariffs on April 2, when uncertainty over policy had shaken confidence in U.S. assets.

“Conditions are now converging for the dollar to recover further and catch up with the rise in US stocks and bond yields,” said Kenneth Broux, senior strategist at Societe Generale in London.

Meanwhile, the euro fell 1.3% against the dollar to $1.111 – marking its biggest one-day drop this year. The pound also lost 1% to $1.318.

“We see further weakness in the euro against the dollar, as some key technical levels are being broken,” Broux added.

This week, attention will be on Tuesday’s US Consumer Price Index (CPI) data, along with the April retail sales report due on Thursday, which will be important signals on the real impact of trade tensions on the US economy and influence expectations for a rate cut from the Federal Reserve (Fed).

China's yuan also hit a six-month high, trading at 7.2001 yuan per dollar.
