Developments in Japanese Yen exchange rate on the international market

The USD/JPY pair recorded a strong gain of 1.08% in the week ending April 25, ending a three-week losing streak. This recovery was fueled by optimistic signals from US-China trade negotiations under President Donald Trump, reducing demand for safe-haven assets such as the Japanese Yen.

Despite the short-term recovery, the Japanese yen remains highly influenced by upcoming events. Japanese retail sales data due on April 30 will be the deciding factor, with March sales forecast to rise 3.5% year-on-year. In addition, the Bank of Japan (BoJ) policy decision on May 1 will be a key indicator of the yen's future direction.

Forecast of Japanese Yen exchange rate trend

The Japanese yen has maintained its status as a safe haven amid volatile global financial markets. Over the past two weeks, the yen has strengthened by 5% to 8% against the US dollar, fueled by expectations that the BoJ will continue to tighten interest rates, especially as basic wages at many Japanese companies are on the rise.

With a stable economy, strong politics and high market liquidity, the Japanese Yen is expected to maintain its strong position in the coming time. However, if trade tensions ease or economic data falls short of expectations, the recovery trend of the Japanese Yen may temporarily stall.
