The competition rate for 10th grade of Gifted High School is the highest in 5 years

The average competition ratio of Gifted High School is 1/5.2, the highest in the last 5 years.

On the evening of May 17, Dr. Tran Nam Dung, Vice Principal of the Gifted High School, Ho Chi Minh City National University, said that this year the school received 3,092 applications for the 10th grade entrance exam.

With 595 quotas, the school's average competition ratio is 1/5.2, meaning that for every 5 students taking the exam, only one will be admitted. This ratio is much higher than last year's 1/3.9 and the highest in the past 5 years.

English had the highest number of registered candidates with 1,254. Math had 864 candidates, Literature had 573. Next were Chemistry (419), Physics (285), Biology and Informatics with 184 and 162 candidates registered, respectively.

The entrance exam for grade 10 of the Gifted High School took place on May 26 and 27. The school recruited 350 students for 10 specialized classes, including: Math, English, Information Technology - two classes for each subject; Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Literature - one class for each subject.

In addition, the school enrolls 245 students for specialized classes oriented towards interdisciplinary fields, related to Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English and Literature.

Candidates are required to take four exams, including three Math, English, Literature and a specialized exam. Each candidate can register for up to 8 wishes. The school does not distinguish the order of wishes, however, candidates will only be admitted to the highest priority wish.

The admission score is the sum of the three exams Math, English, Literature with coefficient 1 and the specialized subject exam with coefficient 2. All exams are calculated on a 10-point scale.

Last year, the English specialized class had the highest benchmark score at the Gifted High School with 32.6 points; the lowest was the Natural Science and Technology specialized class with 22.1 points.

High School for the Gifted is a specialized school under the National University of Ho Chi Minh City. This year, it is the only school in Ho Chi Minh City to organize its own entrance exam, independent of the 10th grade entrance exam of the Department of Education and Training.
