Vietnam U19 women's team won on the opening day of the 2025 Southeast Asian U19 tournament

VHO - On the afternoon of June 9, the 2025 Southeast Asian Women's U19 Football Championship officially kicked off in Ho Chi Minh City. The Vietnam Women's U19 Football Team had a favorable start in Group A when they defeated Myanmar Women's U19 2-0.

At the tournament, the Vietnamese U19 women's team is in Group A with Myanmar, Laos and Timor Leste. Group B includes Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia and Malaysia.

The teams will compete in a round robin format to calculate points, rank, and select the top 2 teams in each group to enter the semi-finals.

The first challenge in the journey to conquer the championship at home of U19 Vietnam women's team is U19 Myanmar women's team, the toughest opponent in the group of the host girls.

Both teams entered the match with great determination. Myanmar U19 women's team created the first scoring opportunity but failed to capitalize.

The turning point of the match took place in the 35th minute from a direct free kick on the left wing, about 20m from the Myanmar U19 women's goal, Thuy Linh took a beautiful shot, sending the ball into the top corner, scoring the opening goal for the home team.

The joy of the host girls

In the 40th minute, from a long kick from his teammate, Thanh Hieu accelerated strongly and broke into the penalty area, before shooting diagonally, forcing goalkeeper Thu Zar Aung to go into the net to pick up the ball for the second time.

In the second half, Myanmar U19 women's team tried to increase the speed of the match in the hope of finding an equalizer but failed.

For their part, coach Okiyama Masahiko's students also quickly deployed when they had the opportunity to attack. However, the U19 Vietnam women's team did not have any more goals in the second half of the match.

With this result, Vietnam U19 women's team and Laos U19 women's team, the team that defeated Timor Leste U19 women's team 2-0 in the previous match, temporarily share the top 2 positions after the first round of matches.

In the second match taking place on June 11, Vietnam U19 women's team will compete with Timor Leste U19 women's team.
