Goalkeeper Muhammad Ardiansyah wants to solve U23 Vietnam in 90 official minutes. |
"I still don't know who the U23 Vietnam strikers are. The coaching staff will let us analyze the opponent carefully. U23 Indonesia is ready. If we have to take penalties, the chance is 50-50, but I want to beat them within 90 minutes," goalkeeper Muhammad Ardiansyah of U23 Indonesia expressed his determination before the final match with U23 Vietnam.
Indonesia U23 had to endure 120 tense minutes against Thailand U23 in the semi-finals on July 25. The prolonged match significantly depleted the players’ stamina. Therefore, Ardiansyah wanted to settle the match in regular time, avoiding a penalty shootout like the previous match.
The determination of U23 Indonesia is also shown in the statement of the President of the Football Federation of this country - Mr. Erick Thohir. "We are the host, we cannot let them bully us. If U23 Vietnam plays rough, we must also respond harshly here," Mr. Thohir emphasized. "Of course, it is not about playing violently or causing harm to the opponent, but we need to be ready to collide when necessary."
However, the home team is facing a personnel problem. All three pillars including naturalized striker Jens Raven and two midfielders Arkhan Fikri and Toni Firmansyah are injured and have no chance of playing in the final. This is a big loss for U23 Indonesia, especially when Raven is the top scorer in the tournament with 7 goals.
Meanwhile, U23 Vietnam has a greater advantage in physical strength as it only needed 90 minutes to defeat U23 Philippines in the semi-finals. Coach Kim Sang-sik and his team are aiming for their third consecutive championship at the U23 Southeast Asian tournament.
The final match between U23 Vietnam and U23 Indonesia will take place at 8:00 p.m. on July 29 at Bung Karno Stadium.
