U23 Vietnam undefeated in Asian qualifiers

After defeating U23 Yemen 1-0 and U23 Guam 6-0, U23 Vietnam has secured the top spot in the group and a ticket to the 2024 AFC U23 Championship finals. Meanwhile, U23 Singapore could not advance with only 1 point. Before the final match, coach Philippe Troussier's team had 6 points after 2 matches, 3 points more than the second-placed U23 Yemen. In case U23 Yemen defeats U23 Guam in the final match and even if U23 Vietnam loses to U23 Singapore, we will still get a direct ticket to the next round thanks to a better head-to-head record.

Having already secured a place in the next round, it is no surprise that coach Philippe Troussier gave opportunities to new players and players who are not often in the starting lineup.

Right after the opening whistle, the red team took the initiative to enter the game and quickly caused trouble for the U23 Singapore goal. In the 12th minute, goalkeeper Aizil Yazid made a mistake and fouled Bui Vi Hao in the penalty area. Nguyen Dinh Bac scored from the penalty spot, opening the score for U23 Vietnam. This goal helped U23 Vietnam play more excitedly. Coach Troussier's students continuously had dangerous opportunities but could not take advantage of them.

In the second half, U23 Vietnam continued to dominate. However, in the 58th minute, U23 Singapore unexpectedly scored an equalizer to make it 1-1. Starting from a corner kick, Huu Nam accidentally headed the ball into his own net. However, in the 77th minute, Huu Nam's tricky shot helped the home team take the lead 2-1. However, with about 5 minutes left in the match, the U23 Vietnam defense made a mistake, creating an opportunity for U23 Singapore to once again equalize 2-2 with a goal by Vasileios.

With an unbeaten record in Group C, coach Philippe Troussier and his team have successfully completed their mission in the 2024 AFC U23 Championship Qualifiers, finishing first in the group and earning a ticket to the final round.
