UAE brokers exchange of 300 prisoners between Russia and Ukraine

According to a VNA correspondent in the Middle East, in a significant step towards humanitarian reconciliation efforts, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has successfully brokered a large-scale prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine.

150 prisoners from each side were safely returned on February 5. This is considered the 12th notable success in the UAE's series of reconciliation efforts since the beginning of 2024.

To date, the total number of prisoners exchanged between the two sides through the mediation of the UAE has reached 2,883.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed satisfaction with the spirit of cooperation between Russia and Ukraine in this process. The UAE affirmed its commitment to continue efforts to find a peaceful solution to the Ukrainian conflict.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky shared on social network X photos of Ukrainian prisoners detained in Mariupol and the Zaporizhzhia region.

He also sent special thanks to the UAE for its continuous efforts in helping Ukrainian citizens return to their homeland./.
