The agency confirmed that the Russian army repelled two counterattacks by Ukrainian forces on the same day.
Also on January 5, the German newspaper Der Spiegel reported on January 5 that the Russian army was advancing strongly to the West, crossing the city of Krasnoarmeysk (Ukraine calls it Pokrovsk) and approaching the administrative border of Dnepropetrovsk province, aiming to gain complete control over the territories of the two self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Luhansk.
The article stressed that even Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky acknowledged the relentless advance of the Russian army.
Ukrainska Pravda reported that President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that on January 3 and 4, in the area of Makhnovka village in Kursk, the Russian army (RFAF) lost up to an infantry battalion.
"Today, Commander-in-Chief Syrsky reported in detail on our actions at the front. Fierce battles continue along the entire front line, most fiercely in the direction of Pokrovsk. Russia continues to lose a large number of its people in the attacks...", he said.
"The commander-in-chief also reported on the situation in the Kursk region. In particular, in the battles today and yesterday in the area of only one village, Makhnovka, in the Kursk region, the Russian army lost up to an infantry battalion. And this is very noticeable," the Ukrainian leader affirmed.
