Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said on March 7 that he had a “constructive phone call” with his US counterpart Marco Rubio to discuss an upcoming bilateral conference in Saudi Arabia, stressing that Washington plays an “essential” role for peace.
“Ukraine wants the conflict to end and US leadership is essential to achieving lasting peace. We also discussed ways to promote bilateral cooperation,” Sybiha wrote on social network X.
Also on March 7, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy revealed that in-depth contacts had taken place with US officials with a very clear theme of “peace as soon as possible, the most reliable security possible”.
Ukraine also said that President Volodymyr Zelensky will not apologize for the argument with his US counterpart Donald Trump during a meeting at the White House in February.
"The president is absolutely right in trying to convey the main message to our American partners: Nothing can be achieved without forcing Russia," Mikhail Podoliak, a senior adviser to President Zelensky, said in an interview with French magazine Le Point on March 7.
Previously, on March 6, US President Donald Trump's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff confirmed that he was discussing with Ukraine the framework of a peace agreement to end the more than 3-year conflict with Russia.
