Russia-Ukraine war today December 7, 2024: Ukraine sends important strategic reserve forces to the battlefield as the Kupyansk fronts may collapse.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) command has transferred "very significant reserves" to Kupyansk in the Kharkiv region. This was reported by the Russian news agency TASS, citing military expert, retired Lieutenant Colonel of the Lugansk People's Militia, Andrey Marochko.
“ As for the Kupyansk tactical direction, the fighting here has now moved to the stage of fighting for tactical positions ,” Andrey Marochko said. According to the expert, the Russian army is destroying and crushing everything that the Ukrainian command puts on the battlefield.
Earlier, expert Marochko said that the Russian army continued to develop successfully in Kupyansk and neighboring battlefields. He emphasized that within the city itself, the Russian zone of control was expanded to the northeast of the Zaoskolye railway station.

Earlier, the Ukrainian side announced that there was a major threat to Kupyansk and that the city could change hands. Images and information from the front confirmed that Russian assault units had succeeded in gaining a foothold in some areas deep inside the city.
Russia attacks Chasov Yar
The Readovka Telegram channel reported that units of the Russian 98th Guards Airborne Division, after an attack on a clay mine near Chasov Yar, focused their attack on the neighborhoods north of the settlement.
Russian airborne troops have taken part of the Severny neighborhood and are continuing to expand into the surrounding areas. The concentration of AFU forces in the center and south of the city has significantly weakened the defense potential of the northern neighborhood. Therefore, when Russian troops attacked, Ukrainian units defended very weakly and retreated.
The 98th Division will continue its offensive operations to support friendly units attacking the refractory plant from the south. Thanks to its preparation and strong fortifications, the defending AFU forces, despite losses, have not yet retreated. The battle will be fierce in the coming days.
However, the emergence of a new direction for attacking the refractory plant could significantly change the situation and be the decisive blow to Chasov Yar.
To the south, the 98th Division was also preparing to attack the AFU, which was entrenched in an apartment block behind the factory. At the same time, they were planning to advance from a large forest that served as a safe buffer zone on their flanks.
While the AFU was pinned down by fighting in the factory area, the Russian side was preparing to collapse the entire central Chasov Yar area with a series of attacks from the south and north.
AFU's losses in Kursk determined
According to the Russian Defense Ministry , the AFU lost an estimated 270,400 soldiers on all fronts and 1,217 tanks between August 6 and December 6. Of these, 38,400 Ukrainian soldiers and 232 tanks were destroyed in the Kursk region alone.
Earlier, the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov announced that the Ukrainian armed forces in the Kursk region were almost finished. According to him, the situation in the region will certainly be restored in the near future.
Fighting with the Ukrainian army in the Kursk region has been going on for four months. The Russian side has liberated about half of the territory of the Kursk region occupied by the AFU since the beginning of August 2024.
