Ukraine has a new counterattack plan, US President Joe Biden says Israel is wrong, Russia expels nearly 1,000 foreigners, Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio visits Washington... are some of the outstanding international events in the past 24 hours.

* Ukraine plans new counterattack: On April 10, RT reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky affirmed that although his country's forces are currently being pushed back on the front, he hopes to reverse the situation.

“Russia has more manpower, more weapons. But the West has modern weapons systems. If we get licenses (for production) from our partners, it is not about the number of soldiers. It is about the quality of the weapons,” the Ukrainian leader said.

According to the leader, Kiev has plans for a new counterattack, but that depends on the US resuming military support for the Eastern European country and the West helping Ukraine increase its domestic military production.

* Ukraine expects India to play a leading role in the peace summit in Switzerland, according to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has extended an invitation to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the summit and hopes that New Delhi will take on one of the key roles there, Kuleba said. (Sputnik)

* President Zelensky invited former US President Donald Trump to Ukraine , and expressed his readiness to listen to Mr. Trump's proposals on the conflict.

* Ukraine's president inspected military defense lines in Kharkiv on April 9 and made an appeal for military support to protect the country's second-largest city from growing attacks.

* US to sell air defense equipment to Ukraine: On April 9, a US State Department official said the US will sell Ukraine equipment worth $138 million to maintain and upgrade Hawk air defense systems to help counter Russian drone and cruise missile attacks. (Reuters)

* Moscow deports more than 800 foreigners: After conducting more than 10,000 enhanced immigration checks following the March 22 terrorist attack, on March 10, the Moscow City Department of Internal Affairs announced the decision to deport 836 foreigners.

* Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio visited the US from April 9 and will have a summit with host country President Joe Biden on April 10 (local time) to agree on a major upgrade in the defense alliance between the two sides.

He will also participate in the first-ever summit between the leaders of the United States, Japan and the Philippines in Washington on April 11 (local time).

* The Korean National Assembly election officially took place from 6am to 6pm on April 10 (local time), at 14,259 polling stations nationwide, to select 300 delegates.

According to a poll conducted by cable television station JTBC , the main opposition Democratic Party (DP) and its affiliate United Democratic Party are expected to win a total of 168-193 seats in the 300-member National Assembly.

Meanwhile, the ruling People's Power Party (PPP) and its affiliated People's Future Party are likely to win only 87-111 seats. (Yonhap)

* South Korea, China and Japan are pushing ahead with a long-delayed trilateral summit around May 26-27, according to the Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper on April 10.

According to sources, the three countries have entered final consultations regarding the holding of a trilateral summit in South Korea.

* The United States, Britain and Australia are considering adding partners in developing advanced capabilities projects under the Trilateral Security Treaty (AUKUS), with potential options including South Korea, Canada and New Zealand, a senior US official said on April 9.

The US official said that, in addition to Japan, the above partners could bring special strengths to Pillar II, however, the additions would only be made with full consensus and "through a consultation process expected to take several months." (Yonhap)

* India wants to maintain good relations with its neighbors, but "if someone tries to hurt our dignity, New Delhi today has the strength to respond," Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said on April 9.

Referring to China's recent 'renaming' of places in Arunachal Pradesh and posting them on its website, Mr Singh stated that this "will not achieve any results... China should not commit this mistake" as "such steps will harm bilateral relations".

Stating that the border villages are developing rapidly to protect the country, Minister Singh asserted: "No one can now take away Indian land... These villages are not only strategically important but the people living there are also our strategic assets." (PTI)

* Israel will respond if attacked by Iran from the territory of the Islamic Republic, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz announced on April 10.

A day earlier, Israel's Channel 12 television channel quoted Israeli military officials as saying that Tehran's response to the airstrike on the consular building at the Iranian Embassy in Damascus would not happen until after the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr, which ends on April 12.

Sources also said that Iran's attack would target military or strategic assets, not civilian locations.

On the same day, Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei warned that Israel "will be punished" for the airstrike in Damascus that killed seven soldiers of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), including two generals. (AFP)

* US concerned about Russian hypersonic weapons: A joint statement by US Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall, US Space Operations Director Chance Saltzman and US Air Force Chief of Staff David Allvin stated that Russia's upgrade of strategic weapons, especially hypersonic weapons and other next-generation weapons, threatens US security.

The joint statement noted that Russia is developing and deploying a range of counterspace systems including ground-, air- and orbital-launched anti-satellite weapons, laser weapons, electronic warfare systems and cyber capabilities that could threaten dual-use military and space assets.
