On the morning of July 20th, the Vietnam Blockchain Association, the ABAII Institute of Blockchain Technology and Artificial Intelligence, in collaboration with Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine in Ho Chi Minh City, organized a seminar on the topic "The Global Blockchain and AI Landscape - Applications in the Medical Industry" for over 400 students and lecturers at Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine.
Expected to be a breakthrough in human healthcare, AI can now assist doctors in diagnosing diseases, predicting disease risks, supporting treatment processes, managing medical records, researching and developing drugs, monitoring the supply chain of medical supplies, and assisting in treatment, among other things.
Furthermore, AI and advanced technological solutions are contributing to changing the way public health is cared for. The intersection of AI and biotechnology opens up many applications that help accelerate the development of new drugs, reduce costs, and improve research results...
According to Mr. Dao Trung Thanh, Deputy Director of the ABAII Institute, AI is changing the world and is making incredibly strong strides, impacting all fields such as economics , healthcare, culture, and education. For the healthcare sector, using AI to diagnose diseases can reduce treatment costs by up to 50%, while improving health check-up results by up to 40%. According to research from the University of Hawaii, the deployment of AI technology improves the accuracy of predicting breast cancer risk, thanks to AI algorithms trained on a database of millions of images, far exceeding the research and learning capabilities of radiologists. Importantly, healthcare facilities can reuse the algorithms without incurring additional costs, except for hardware.
At the seminar, Associate Professor, Doctor Tran Thi Khanh Tuong, Head of the Faculty of Medicine and Head of the Department of General Internal Medicine at Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine, shared: “AI and Blockchain can bring many positive impacts to the medical industry such as disease diagnosis, medical record management, drug origin control and distribution processes... The university is very interested in the applications of Blockchain and AI in the medical industry and is researching to implement suitable training programs to help students gain more knowledge and skills in the context of rapidly changing technology.”
This is the 8th seminar in the Unitour program series – promoting Blockchain and AI at universities nationwide, implemented by the Vietnam Blockchain Association and the ABAII Institute of Blockchain and Artificial Intelligence Technology since March 2024.
On this occasion, the Association awarded 30 scholarships to students and lecturers at Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine. The scholarships cover training courses focusing on disseminating knowledge about AI, Blockchain, and coding.
According to the Ministry of Health , the application of AI in medical examination and treatment is a global trend. The Vietnamese healthcare sector is strongly applying AI technology to improve and upgrade patient care. AI enhances the ability to diagnose even serious illnesses. While AI cannot replace doctors, its algorithms and ability to synthesize complex data allow the device to assist doctors in developing appropriate treatment plans for each patient. Furthermore, AI helps manage medical records and databases, monitor health, provide advice, and manage pharmaceuticals.
