Deep State, an intelligence source affiliated with the Ukrainian military and under the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense , has acknowledged that Russian assault groups have entered the city of Seversk and that fighting is taking place in the streets. The Russian Ministry of Defense and the head of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), Denis Pushilin, had previously reported fighting on the outskirts of the city. Ukrainian soldiers themselves confirmed this information.
Ukrainian sources claim that, until recently, the area was relatively quiet and showed no signs of an attack by the Russian Armed Forces (RFAF). It is known that this is why the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces has moved units from this area to Pokrovsk, which is currently under tight encirclement by the RFAF. As a result of the lack of infantry forces, the Ukrainian Army's (AFU) defense system in Seversk was weakened; meanwhile, the AFU's reserve forces, withdrawn from Siversk, were also unable to support their forces in the besieged Pokrovsk-Mirnograd region. "The enemy is increasingly appearing in the city (Seversk), especially in the south and eastern suburbs," Deep State reported. Meanwhile, RVvoenkory reported that the RFAF has identified weaknesses in the AFU in Seversk and is actively exploiting these vulnerabilities. According to Deep State, one of the problems in this region is that "information is not always reliable, especially when it comes to neighboring forces." This is a highly self-critical acknowledgment, suggesting that the RFAF is increasingly stretching the AFU's defenses across various areas, while the AFU General Staff simply cannot keep up with these new gaps.
Meanwhile, former Deputy Chief of the AFU General Staff, General Igor Romanenko, is increasing the panic. According to him, the RFAF is pursuing its goal of reaching Slovyansk and Kramatorsk not only from the south (Konstantinovka and Druzhkovka), but also from the northeast, from Lyman and Seversk. According to Russian sources, the attack on Seversk is not only coming from the south; Russian troops are also advancing from the northeast and encircling the city from the northwest. Artillery is actively supporting the infantry, further developing the offensive. The tactical siege of the city continues. To the west of Seversk, the encirclement has narrowed to seven kilometers. According to the Readovka channel, the Russian army launched an offensive south of Siversk with the goal of encircling a Ukrainian troop concentration there. The Russian forces captured the village of Pazino and the surrounding area in a single assault. The RFAF is currently launching an operation to encircle the entire Seversk cluster, attempting to reach the western village of Reznikovka from Soledar and eventually link up with the assault units that have just captured the village of Platonivka to the northwest. This would block Ukrainian troops stationed in Seversk and other units west of the city. It should be noted that the RFAF's 3rd Army Group chose the area around Pazino to form a southern "pincer" encircling the city. Just near Seversk, the RFAF's 10th Independent Assault Brigade was also operating to provide support from the west.
However, further south, the AFU lacked the necessary numbers and forces to stop the enemy. The AFU General Staff simply couldn't withdraw troops from anywhere to provide reinforcements. They couldn't expedite their withdrawal from Seversk and the surrounding area. Meanwhile, the AFU had virtually no defensive system to hold onto in the area between Pazino and Reznikovka. There were no settlements or industrial facilities there. The AFU would have to rely entirely on the dense forests and arid ravines to organize its defenses. The key problem for Ukrainian forces in Siversk is not a lack of defensive space, but the ability to reinforce the area. Simply put, the commander of the RFAF group at the Siversk front has found an enemy "weak point" in this region.
According to Military Summary, the AFU's Seversk defensive line is being breached from three sides, and Ukrainian forces are terrified to realize that the Russians have no intention of stopping. According to several sources, Russian troops have overrun the eastern part of the city and are crossing the Bakhmutka River to advance westward. The next target is the twin cities of Slovyansk and Kramatorsk. (Image source: Military Review, Kyiv Post, Sputnik).
