Nam Mau Coal Company is one of the leading units in mechanizing the Group's production lines. In tunnel excavation, the method of drilling and blasting, manual loading and unloading has been replaced by a combined Combai excavator and conveyor belt. Thanks to that, in 2024, the construction unit was able to construct 776m of tunnel and is expected to reach over 940m in 2025. In the mining stage, Nam Mau Coal is accelerating the installation of a mechanized longwall at -110 to -100. The longwall has a design capacity of 1,500 tons of coal/day, equivalent to 35,000 to 38,000 tons of coal/month, expected to be put into operation from the beginning of October 2025, promising to increase output, improve working conditions and reduce labor for miners.
Not only stopping at tunneling or mining, mechanization is also applied in transportation with a winch system to help people move quickly and safely; conveyor lines connecting from level -200 to +50 replace manual carts; materials and equipment are transported by monorail using KPCZ95/4+2 Diesel locomotives combined with winches, saving labor while improving productivity and safety.
The positive results from the application of mechanization have directly increased productivity, creating an important foundation for Nam Mau Coal to complete and exceed the production plan. By the end of the first 9 months of 2025, the unit produced over 2.1 million tons of coal, reaching 80% of the yearly plan. The target of 2.75 million tons for the whole year of 2025 is the highest underground production level ever, making an important contribution to the overall development of TKV.
Not only Nam Mau Coal, many other units in the Group are also promoting the application of science and technology. In 2024, TKV's mechanized coal mining output will reach more than 3.6 million tons, accounting for 13.41% of total underground output.
Currently, the Group has 13 mechanized lines with a total output of over 18.2 million tons in the 2020-2024 period (nearly double that of the 2015-2019 period). Notably, 18 ZRY soft-frame lines have helped reduce coal loss by 1.5 to 2.5 times compared to the old technology. In tunnel excavation, TKV operates 14 EBH-45 roadheader lines and 26 semi-mechanized lines; 100% of coal transported through inclined shafts has been transferred by conveyor belt instead of manual methods. People, materials and equipment in the longwall are transported by winches and mine shaft hoists, significantly reducing labor.
Along with mechanization, units in TKV have also promoted the deployment of automation on a large scale. Up to now, 100% of units have centralized control rooms; 70% of mines have automated electrical systems; 61.5% of mines have automated fans and 53.8% have automated drainage pumping stations. In addition, TKV has proactively localized many important equipment such as explosion-proof hydraulic excavators, ME01-DE drills, 120kN battery locomotives, self-propelled support platforms and ZRY soft platforms, reducing import costs and enhancing initiative. These technologies contribute to modernizing production, increasing the safety and efficiency of underground coal mining of TKV.
Along with that, TKV also pays special attention to promoting digital transformation, considering this a strategic step to improve management capacity, optimize production and gradually build a "green mine - modern mine - mine with few people" model throughout the Group. Up to now, the Group has built a Data Center, operated a centralized data warehouse system and smart reporting. 100% of underground coal production units have applied electronic shift handover. TKV is cooperating with Viettel to deploy the digital transformation plan for the 2025 period, piloting the "smart mine" model at Khe Cham, managing modern equipment at Mao Khe, moving towards digitizing all production activities.
Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan, Deputy General Director of Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group (TKV), said: In the period of 2026-2030, TKV will focus on implementing breakthrough technology solutions such as geophysical exploration, automated drilling; developing synchronous mechanized longwalls, automatic transport equipment, mining monitoring systems on IoT-5G platform; researching the application of robots to inspect tunnels, 3D digital maps in mining management; treating and recycling mine wastewater, reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
To realize this goal, TKV promotes international cooperation, trains high-quality human resources, and applies advanced safety management models such as ISO 45001, BBS, Zero Harm, considering safety and environmental protection as top priorities. With this orientation, TKV not only improves production and business efficiency but also gradually builds a modern, green and sustainable coal industry, meeting development requirements in the new period.
