Previously, male patient BT (27 years old, from Quang Ngai ) was admitted to the hospital with jaundice, yellow eyes, fatigue, poor appetite, and frequent vomiting. At the hospital, Mr. T. was tested for hepatitis B, C, and other hepatitis viruses, but all results were negative.
Through medical history, it was known that the patient had previously taken about 80 paracetamol pills within 2 months to treat muscle pain. According to Mr. T., he often had back and neck pain, so he often went to the pharmacy to buy paracetamol. Mr. T. took about 2 pills a day and continuously for more than 2 months.
After 8 days of treatment, the patient's health stabilized and he was discharged from the hospital. |

MSc. Dr. Le Quoc Tuan, Department of Intensive Care and Anti-Poisoning, said: "The patient was admitted to the hospital with hepatitis and severe acute liver failure. Liver enzymes, bilirubin, and blood clotting function were severely disrupted."
The team of doctors treated the patient's severe acute liver failure by plasma exchange, along with supportive treatment while waiting for the liver to recover. After 8 days of treatment, the patient's health was stable, he had a good appetite, the yellowing of his skin and eyes improved and he was discharged on May 3.
Doctor Tuan warned people to pay attention to the dosage of paracetamol as prescribed by the doctor. If there are any unusual signs after using paracetamol, such as: itching, yellow skin, yellow eyes, poor appetite, vomiting... people should go to the nearest medical facility for timely treatment.
