FAMILIAR YET "STRANGE" NAMES AT THE TOP
It is quite surprising that the top 4 of the V-League up to this point includes HAGL and Ha Tinh - two teams that are undefeated and possess a relatively solid position in 3rd and 4th place respectively. It is worth mentioning that a few months ago, at the end of the 2023 - 2024 season, in the extremely fierce and dramatic relegation race, these two opponents had to "scratch and scrape" to stay in the near-bottom position (11th and 13th)...
HAGL is playing very well in V-League
Thanks to careful preparation in all aspects (depth of force, reasonable transfer strategy), both HAGL and Ha Tinh are "transforming" spectacularly to have solid steps forward in expertise. They, along with Thanh Hoa, are teams with a strong physical foundation and are very difficult to defeat. After 5 rounds, HAGL owns the best defense in V-League with only 2 goals conceded, and at the same time, solved the problem of foreign players quite well by retaining excellent center-back Jairo Rodrigues and adding 2 quality Brazilian strikers Jeferson and Marciel. These factors create a stable and quality vertical axis for the mountain town team. Not only that, Jairo and Marciel have shone with 3/8 goals of HAGL up to this point. The defense under the command of the Brazilian center-back and new names like Ly Duc and Trung Kien have played extremely well. HAGL also has a record of keeping a clean sheet in 3 matches (best in V-League).
Meanwhile, Ha Tinh, with the presence of rookie Geovane, has risen to become a team with top quality play in the V-League. In the most recent match, despite having to play away at Hanoi FC, Coach Nguyen Thanh Cong's players performed extremely impressively.
Which "big guys" are starting out slow?
The defending champion Nam Dinh is having a rather disappointing start, with only 7 points after 5 matches, losing 2 matches, including a humiliating defeat to Hanoi Police Club (CAHN) with a score of 0-3 right at home. The rather lackluster playing style combined with the worrying achievements of the "big guy" in Thanh Nam is really not commensurate with the strong investment. Coach Vu Hong Viet currently has 7 "Western" players in the squad, but perhaps the integration of the new players and the tight schedule when having to compete in both arenas has made Nam Dinh not have the stable performance as expected. After not bad matches against Bangkok United (Thailand) and Tampines Rovers (Singapore) in the Asian Cup C2, returning to the domestic arena, Nam Dinh lost to CAHN right at Thien Truong Stadium. This defeat sounded the alarm about the huge challenges awaiting Nam Dinh when they simultaneously nurture two great ambitions.
Nam Dinh's strong lineup is shaky.
The lack of personality and blandness of Hanoi FC also disappointed fans. Two consecutive draws with weak performances against CAHN and Ha Tinh teams, plus the loss to The Cong Viettel, made the audience and experts question the true ability and ambition of this team. The squad is not bad with a series of quality national and foreign players, but the problem for Hanoi FC now lies in the captain position. Coach Le Duc Tuan has not shown any clear professional impression.
In that situation, the fiery spirit of Thanh Hoa Club or the strong rise of The Cong Viettel are the bright spots at the top of the rankings. In round 6 of the V-League, Thanh Hoa will host Hanoi FC at home, this will be the focal match of this round and also a real "test" for the ambitions of both sides. Meanwhile, The Cong Viettel will be a guest at Quang Nam (a team that is having difficulties with only 5 points after 5 matches). Last season, Quang Nam won against The Cong Viettel with a score of 2-0 right at Hoa Xuan Stadium, but perhaps that will be difficult to repeat when the away team is in extremely high form.
Overall, round 6 will be a pivotal round in the race for the top of the V-League, where we will most likely see the breakthrough of The Cong Viettel, Thanh Hoa, CAHN. And we will also be able to test the true ability and ambition of Binh Duong or new phenomena named Ha Tinh, HAGL.
