Thanh Ha litchi reaches far - sweet fruit from a correct and sustainable vision

Right policy, sustainable direction

Right from the first years after the August Revolution in 1945, the first Party cell of Thanh Ha district identified agricultural production development as the top priority to stabilize people's lives. In the context of flooded land and difficult cultivation, the District Party Committee directed the renovation of the dike system, organized agricultural production in the direction of specialization, especially exploiting the advantages of fruit trees.

The big turning point came from the organization of the development of the Thuy Lam litchi variety, a fruit considered the "quintessence of heaven and earth" Thanh Ha, a specialty of the East. Mr. Hoang Van Com, the founder of litchi trees in Thuy Lam village (Thanh Son commune) was mobilized and propagated to spread the precious tree variety. In the 60s of the last century, responding to the "Tree Planting Festival" movement launched by Uncle Ho, Party cells brought litchi trees to all communes, gradually forming large specialized cultivation areas.

In the post-renovation period, Party organizations at all levels in the district continued to play a core political role in transforming production models. From directing the restructuring of lychee varieties according to the characteristics and strengths of each region's land, cultivation techniques to preserving the ancestral lychee tree, the Party organizations stood side by side with the people.

In particular, since the early years of the 21st century, many major agricultural projects of Hai Duong province and Thanh Ha district have been implemented synchronously. Thanh Ha district Party Committee has issued a specialized resolution on fruit tree development, identifying lychee as the main crop. Communes in Ha Dong and Ha Nam areas are planned as concentrated lychee areas, in which Ha Dong area specializes in growing early lychee, Ha Nam, Ha Bac, Ha Tay specialize in growing main-season lychee.

Today, Thanh Ha litchi not only conquers the domestic market but also reaches Japan, EU, USA... Litchi is chosen by many communes and individuals as a typical product in the journey of building OCOP products "One commune one product". The whole district maintains 167 litchi area codes eligible for export, 7 packaging facilities with 20 licensed export packaging facility codes. Currently, there are more than 200 hectares of litchi produced according to VietGAP standards, supported by the province with funding for assessment and certification, and organic biological fertilizers.

Thanh Ha litchi has a sweet taste, thick flesh, small seeds, when peeled the juice does not stick to your hands. Compared to litchi from other places, the quality of litchi is much superior, when eaten it does not have astringent taste. Therefore, Thanh Ha litchi is famous far and wide and is favored by domestic and international markets. Thanh Ha litchi used to be a famous fruit offered to the king.

Thanh Ha district currently has 3,282 hectares of lychee, with an expected output of 35,000 tons this year. The lychee growing areas in Thanh Quang, Thanh Cuong, Thanh Xa, Thanh Son communes... have formed a chain of links from production, harvesting to consumption and export. The Party Committee of the district is determined to "turn traditional strengths into development advantages" and realizes it through scientific planning and close direction. Grassroots party organizations directly participate in mobilizing people to convert plant varieties, apply VietGAP and GlobalGAP techniques, and link with businesses to consume products.

With the guidance of the Party Committees and authorities, Thanh Ha litchi growers are not only diligent but also creative. They are not afraid to change to new varieties, learn clean farming techniques, use organic fertilizers, prune according to technical procedures...

Not only growing fresh lychees, people are also guided in deep processing such as drying, making lychee vinegar, freezing... Thanks to that, the economic value is increasingly increased, reaching an average of 250 million VND/ha. Many households have become rich from lychee trees, contributing to building a model new rural area, an advanced new rural area.

Up to now, Thanh Ha litchi has been certified as a "geographical indication" and many other prestigious titles such as: "Top 10 prestigious quality products" and a specialty "Quintessence of specialties of 3 regions", "Golden Brand" award, "Trusted and safe food brand" certificate, top 10 famous brands voted by the Vietnam Association of Science and Entrepreneurs, Intellectual Property and Creativity Magazine.

Most recently, in October 2024, Thanh Ha litchi was certified as the Golden Agricultural Brand of Vietnam by the Vietnam General Association of Agriculture and Rural Development. This achievement bears a strong mark of the comprehensive and consistent leadership role of Thanh Ha Party Committees at all levels.
