Vietnamese Literature and Performing Arts: A Glorious Period

50 outstanding and outstanding Vietnamese literary and performing arts works after the country's reunification include works by names beloved by the public.

The list was announced by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on November 30 in Hanoi. Among the 50 works, there are 14 literary works, 18 theatrical works, 12 musical works and 6 dance works.

I understand that no vote can satisfy and please all the public. But this list is also a way of evaluation and voting. It does not interfere too much with the public's perspective and feelings. The public certainly has their own list of works.

Flow of flesh and blood

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh affirmed that after the country's reunification, over the past 50 years, Vietnamese literature and performing arts have truly become the blood and flesh of the nation, the voice of conscience, and the spirit of the nation.

Typical works published during this period have realistically and vividly recorded the country's journey of overcoming difficulties due to the severe consequences of war, siege, embargo, and successfully carrying out the renovation and international integration.

The announcement ceremony is not only an honoring event but also an act of deep gratitude from the Party, State and people to generations of artists whose silent sacrifices and tireless creativity have built up the mettle, spirit and soul of Vietnam.

Above all, this is the most sincere gratitude to millions of people, readers, and audiences - those who have preserved, passed on, and turned these works into a common heritage, truly alive in the spiritual life of the nation.

Sharing here, poet Tran Dang Khoa said: "This honor is given to the soldiers, they are the ones who created our heroic epic. Truong Sa has very special sovereignty markers, in addition to steel and cement markers, there are also sovereignty markers that are songs, works of art, novels, plays, and films.

And with talented artists, they will create lasting milestones that no time can destroy."

Writer Chu Lai was saddened when he saw that most of the authors' relatives were present to receive the honor. On the occasion of the stage play Red Rain being honored as well as the success of the film and novel of the same name, Mr. Chu Lai said that this proves that the Vietnamese people have never turned their backs on the subject of war.

In particular, musician Do Hong Quan received double joy when he and his father - musician Do Nhuan, were honored for two works written 40 years apart. Mr. Quan sent his thanks to the country, thanked the glorious days of the nation for bringing great inspiration to artists.

He said creation is a personal job, but artists always create with the beat of the people and history to create works that are with the country.

Continue to live forever

50 representative works in the field of literature include The Sorrow of War by Bao Ninh, Myself and They by Nguyen Binh Phuong, Mother of the Mountains by Nguyen Xuan Khanh, Land of Many People and Ghosts by Nguyen Khac Truong, Falling Leaves in the Garden by Ma Van Khang, and Distant Times by Le Luu;

The Wharf Without a Husband by Duong Huong, The Sunken Island by Tran Dang Khoa, The Water God's Daughter by Nguyen Huy Thiep, Reeds by Nguyen Minh Chau, Endless Field by Nguyen Ngoc Tu, Those Who Go to the Sea by Thanh Thao, The Road to the City by Huu Thinh, The Song of January by Y Phuong.

In the theater field, there are the works Truong Ba's Soul, Butcher's Skin, Me and Us, The 9th Oath by Luu Quang Vu, the trilogy The Song of National Defense by Cao Mat, Bamboo Forest by Nguyen Dinh Thi, My Ha My by Doan Hoang Giang, White Night by Luu Quang Ha;

The works Summer at the Sea, Eucalyptus Willow by Xuan Trinh, Red Rain by Chu Lai, Scholar of Thang Long by Nguyen Khac Phuc, Da Co Hoai Lang by Thanh Hoang.

In the music field, there are musicals Red Leaves by Do Hong Quan, Spring Has Come by Huy Du, Road of 4 Spring Seasons by Do Nhuan, Spring in Ho Chi Minh City by Xuan Hong, Remembering Hanoi by Hoang Hiep, As if Uncle Ho were here on the day of great victory by Pham Tuyen;

The Country Full of Joy by Hoang Ha, The Country Pham Minh Tuan composed the poem by Ta Huu Yen, The Melody of the Fatherland by Tran Tien, The Love of the Sea by Nguyen Duc Toan, The Fatherland Calls My Name by Dinh Trung Can, The Flowers in Uncle Ho's Garden by Van Dung.

In the field of dance, there are six dance dramas: The Love Story of the Country by Vu Viet Cuong and Tran Kim Quy, Orchids on the Top of Truong Bon by Nguyen Thi Hien, Ballet Kieu by Nguyen Thi Tuyet Minh and Nguyen Phuc Hung, Mother's Legend by Nguyen Cong Nhac, Light Source by Pham Anh Phuong and Nguyen Hong Phong, Country by Ung Duy Thinh.

On this occasion, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism also launched the creation of literary and artistic works Living Forever with Time for the period 2026-2030 towards the 100th anniversary of the Party's founding and the 85th anniversary of National Day September 2.
