Gold Price Forecast
World gold prices increased slightly in the context of a sharp decline in the USD index. Recorded at 7:30 p.m. on June 12, the US Dollar Index, which measures the fluctuations of the greenback against 6 major currencies, was at 104.650 points (down 0.52%).
In fact, gold prices are waiting for the US inflation report for May 2024 to be released later in the day and the announcement of the US Federal Reserve (FED) to predict when this bank will lower interest rates.
Markets are divided on whether the Fed will cut interest rates once or twice this year after a strong US jobs report, so attention will be on policymakers' latest economic forecasts and a press conference by Fed Chairman Jerome Powell.
Gold is trading sideways as investors await clearer signals on the Fed’s policy direction, said Yeap Jun Rong, market strategist at IG. Any hint of a two-time rate cut could be seen as a more dovish stance, which could send gold higher.
Recent strong US jobs data and reports that the People's Bank of China (PBoC) has paused gold purchases triggered the biggest drop in the precious metal's price since November 2020 last week.
In other precious metals, silver rose 0.2% to $29.32 an ounce, platinum rose 0.3% to $954.36 an ounce, and palladium rose 0.7% to $889.75 an ounce.
