RT reported on November 27 that Nigerian President Bola Tinubu declared a "nationwide security emergency" after terrorist attacks and kidnappings increased sharply across the country.
"In light of the current security situation, I have decided to declare a state of security emergency across the country and order the recruitment of more troops into the armed forces," President Tinubu said.

Accordingly, President Tinubu instructed the police force to recruit 20,000 more officers, bringing the total number of new recruits to 50,000. Mr. Tinubu also allowed the temporary use of National Youth Service (NYSC) training facilities as training venues and ordered the immediate retraining of police officers transferred from VIP protection duties.
The Nigerian President also praised the security forces for rescuing 24 schoolgirls in Kebbi state and 38 worshippers in Kwara state who were recently kidnapped, adding that the operation to rescue the kidnapped students in Niger state was still ongoing.
Criminal gangs and terrorist groups in Nigeria often carry out kidnappings in the country, holding victims for long periods of time, demanding ransoms.
In 2014, Boko Haram militants kidnapped hundreds of schoolgirls from the village of Chibok in Borno State, Nigeria. In recent days, a series of kidnappings have occurred in this African country. In particular, on November 21, unidentified gunmen raided St. Mary's Catholic School in Papiri, kidnapping more than 300 students and 12 teachers. In some states, authorities have temporarily closed schools for safety reasons.
On November 26, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova announced that Moscow is ready to provide necessary assistance to Nigeria in the fight against terrorism.
