In an impressive display of China's auto manufacturing prowess, drone footage captured by longtime Tesla watcher Wu Wa shows a massive fleet of Tesla electric vehicles at Shanghai South Port waiting to embark on an international export journey as early as 2024, underscoring Tesla's strong growth in China's auto exports to overseas markets.
According to Wu Wa, the drone operator who filmed the footage, this fleet of Tesla electric cars is about to arrive in Europe, and they will leave port on January 8, 2024.
The local Chinese market has been a significant contributor to Tesla’s success, in line with CEO Elon Musk’s ambitious goals. In December 2023 alone, more than 60,000 Teslas found new owners in China. This is a remarkable feat that puts the American automaker on track to reach its sales target of 1.8 million units in 2023. The upcoming release of official 2023 figures will shed light on whether Tesla has actually achieved this impressive milestone.
Speaking of the important role of the Giga Shanghai factory, this is Tesla's largest car factory, a symbol of China's openness to foreign carmakers. With an estimated annual production capacity of more than 950,000 vehicles, Giga Shanghai plays a key role in meeting the growing global demand for Tesla electric cars. The factory has been a success since it began operations in January 2020, with the first Chinese customers receiving Model 3s.
The importance of the Giga Shanghai Factory to Tesla’s global operations cannot be overstated. As the sole factory producing the Model 3 Highland, it is a key factory in helping Tesla achieve its production goals, as well as helping Tesla make impressive waves in the electric car industry.
Despite its focus on exports, Tesla China has not neglected its domestic market. Estimates show that Tesla China achieved an impressive domestic sales of 60,200 units from December 1 to December 24, 2023, demonstrating Tesla's ability to maintain strong performance on both the domestic Chinese and global fronts.
In short, drone footage of the massive Tesla fleet at Shanghai South Port is a testament to China’s integral role in Tesla’s global strategy. As the world awaits the departure of these electric vehicles to their respective European destinations, the success story of Tesla’s cooperation with China continues to unfold on an unprecedented scale.
