The granting of codes for durian growing areas in Dong Nai for export to China is facing difficulties.

(DN) - According to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, up to now, the whole province has 41 durian growing area codes with 2 thousand hectares meeting export standards to the Chinese market.

In addition, from the end of 2023, in the province, there are about 40 codes for growing areas and codes for packing facilities for exporting durian that have been sent to the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) to transfer to the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) to wait for the code to be issued.

But for nearly 2 years, GACC has not responded to the issuance of new codes. They only responded to the issuance of codes for banana growing areas exporting to this market.

The delay in issuing new durian growing area codes is due to the fact that recently, Vietnam has had many containers of durian exported to the Chinese market in violation, mostly regarding Cadmium residue and yellow O. In particular, since the beginning of 2025, China has tightened control over durian quality with all importing countries.

In particular, all exported durian shipments must have test results showing no Cadmium residue and yellow O, conducted at laboratories recognized by China. To overcome this, Vietnam needs to strengthen quality control, strictly comply with regulations on cultivation and export, as well as build a transparent and sustainable supply chain for the durian industry.

Durian is the province's main crop. In recent times, the area of durian in the province has increased rapidly, currently the whole province has developed nearly 13 thousand hectares of durian, double the number of a few years ago.
