Farmers in Van Gia town are concentrating on harvesting winter-spring rice. |
To proactively carry out production in accordance with the current water situation, the People's Committee of Van Ninh district requires the People's Committees of communes and towns to coordinate with the Department of Agriculture and Environment, relevant agencies and units to carry out a number of tasks such as: Reviewing, checking, forecasting the useful water volume of existing lakes and dams and calculating the ability to exploit other water sources (groundwater, recycled water, etc.) for additional; zoning areas to proactively arrange for quick, neat, and simultaneous sowing in each area and region according to the prescribed crop calendar in the shortest period of time to regulate and manage water reasonably and economically; focusing resources on intensive investment to increase productivity and efficiency.
For areas where water sources are not enough to irrigate rice but still ensure short-term vegetable crops or areas where there is no more irrigation water but other water sources can be exploited (groundwater, water from lakes, dams, rivers and streams, etc.), the People's Committees of communes and towns direct and guide farmers to switch to growing short-term vegetable crops such as corn, peanuts, green beans, watermelon, cantaloupe, chili, etc.; strengthen propaganda and mobilize farmers to change the crop structure on rice land, etc.
Currently, farmers in the southern communes and towns of the district are also focusing on harvesting the remaining areas of winter-spring rice for the 2024-2025 crop. According to statistics from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Van Ninh district, local farmers have harvested more than 2,500 hectares of winter-spring rice, reaching 70% of the area put into production during the crop, with a yield of 72 quintals/ha.
