Ho Chi Minh City upgrades drainage system on many streets that are frequently flooded due to rain

On the morning of May 14, the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board (Infrastructure Board) held a groundbreaking ceremony for the project to renovate the drainage system of Nguyen Van Khoi and Le Van Tho streets in Go Vap district.

At the ceremony, Ms. Nguyen Thi Doan Trang, Vice Chairwoman of Go Vap District People's Committee, said that the district's transportation system and technical infrastructure have not developed in time and synchronously with the increasing population rate. This affects the environment and the quality of life of the people.

Some main roads of Go Vap district such as Nguyen Van Khoi, Le Van Tho, Pham Van Chieu... often experience traffic jams and flooding.

When completed, this project will contribute to connecting drainage infrastructure, urban beautification, improving the quality of life of people, effectively solving problems of drainage, flood prevention and environmental pollution in the area.

"Go Vap District clearly identifies this as a key project with long-term significance. The District will proactively coordinate with relevant departments, project investors and construction units to provide maximum support from site handover, ensuring security and order to propaganda, mobilizing people, creating the most favorable conditions for the construction process" - Ms. Trang shared.

Mr. Van Phu Thai - Deputy Director of the Project Information Infrastructure Department of Go Vap District with a total length of the newly constructed sewer line of about 4,740 m. This is a project under the master plan of the drainage system of Ho Chi Minh City.

The project aims to solve the flooding problem in the project area such as Lang Hoa Park, Nguyen Van Khoi Street, Le Van Tho Street, part of Pham Van Chieu Street and Road No. 51; improve traffic conditions, environmental sanitation and create beauty for the area, gradually complete the city's drainage system. The project, with a total investment of more than 352 billion VND, is expected to be completed in 2026.

"The project is being constructed on major roads with high traffic volume in Go Vap district. Therefore, the Infrastructure Board will coordinate well with the Department of Construction, Go Vap District People's Committee, consulting units, and construction units with the highest responsibility, promptly developing specific plans and appropriate construction organization plans.

At the same time, the board will also mobilize sufficient human resources, machinery and equipment to focus on implementing the construction to ensure quality, progress, labor safety and environmental sanitation, and soon complete the project to put it into use and promote efficiency," Mr. Thai affirmed.
