On the afternoon of May 24, heavy rain caused a leak in the drainage pipe of Terminal T3. Because the pipe was vertical, the water force was very strong, escaping outside and flowing onto the terminal floor.
According to the representative of the joint contractor for the construction of Tan Son Nhat T3 terminal, the incident only lasted for a short time and did not affect the operation of the terminal. The cause of the incident was a leak in the gasket of a drainage pipe joint, allowing water to escape.
“When the incident occurred, the unit immediately fixed it. Engineers and workers went up to the roof to check the entire drainage system, and there are no more water leaks. Tonight, the contractor will replace the gasket and thoroughly treat the joints,” said a unit representative.

Previously, on May 7, there was also an incident of water leaking from the roof of Terminal T3 to the lobby. The cause was later determined to be due to shrinkage of the roof system, where the main roof and the skylight roof meet.
The problem was then quickly resolved.
Terminal T3 is a key project invested by Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV), with a total investment of more than 11,000 billion VND.
The project will start construction at the end of 2022, be inaugurated on April 19, 2025 and officially operate from April 30, 2025, on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day.

With a floor area of over 112,500m², including one basement and four upper floors, Terminal T3 is designed with separate departure and arrival areas, equipped with 90 check-in counters, 20 bagdrop counters, 42 check-in counters and 27 boarding gates.
In addition, the parking lot combined with non-aviation services is also large-scale with two basements and four upper floors, covering an area of 130,000m².
When put into operation, Terminal T3 is expected to serve 20 million domestic passengers per year, contributing to reducing pressure on Terminal T1 and increasing the total operating capacity of Tan Son Nhat airport to 50 million passengers/year.
Currently, all domestic flights of Vietnam Airlines have been transferred to operate at terminal T3.
