Fighting resiliently, the Vietnamese women's futsal team regretfully stopped before Japan.

Despite showing a resilient fighting spirit and relentless efforts, the Vietnamese women's futsal team still had to accept a 0-2 defeat against strong opponents Japan, thereby ending their journey in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Asian Women's Futsal Championship and missing the opportunity to participate in the World Cup.

The Vietnamese team played with great effort.

Right from the first minutes of the match, Coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang’s players had to brace themselves against intense pressure from the team that won the continental runner-up title. After only three minutes of play, Japan scored the opening goal.

Kyoka's close-range shot went past Phuong Anh. Despite her best efforts to block the shot, her unfortunate touch sent the ball rolling into the net, resulting in an unfortunate own goal for the Vietnamese team.

In the 6th minute, Ikeuchi put the ball into the Vietnamese team's net but the goal was disallowed due to a handball.

Not letting the early goal affect their morale, the Vietnamese players proactively pushed up their formation to find a chance to level the score. However, against a team with a tight, disciplined and courageous style of play like Japan, Thanh Hang and her teammates' attacks were all neutralized. Meanwhile, the representative from the land of the rising sun also had a few more dangerous opportunities but could not take advantage in the first half.

In the second half, Japan suddenly accelerated and scored the second goal in the 24th minute. Egawa scored after a fast combination on the wing, despite the Vietnamese defense sticking very closely.

With nothing left to lose, the Vietnamese women's futsal team decided to push up their formation and deploy power-play tactics in the final minutes to find an equalizer. However, the attacks were still not sharp enough to penetrate Japan's solid defense.

Despite having to stop at the quarter-finals, the Vietnamese girls left a deep impression with their resilient, courageous and never-give-up spirit. A regrettable, but also proud ending to the journey of the Vietnamese women's futsal team at this year's tournament.

Speaking after the 0-2 loss to Japan in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Asian women's futsal tournament, coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang could not hide his regret, but affirmed that he was proud of his players' brave fighting spirit.

“Although we are very sad that we could not win, the coaching staff is still proud that the players fought until the last seconds against a top team in the continent,” coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang shared after the match.

“We appreciate the efforts of the entire team. You have given your best. Although the result was not favorable, we will look forward to longer-term goals in the future. The coaching staff will definitely work again to improve the team,” he added.

Immediately after the tournament, the Vietnamese women’s futsal team will begin preparations for the next goal – the SEA Games. “We will quickly return to training to have the best force for the upcoming games,” coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang emphasized.
