Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited Nvidia Semiconductor Manufacturing Company - the leading US enterprise in the field of semiconductor chip manufacturing, with a capitalization value of 992 billion USD (May 2023).
Nvidia currently has more than 26,000 employees worldwide. Nvidia plans to more than triple its production of artificial intelligence (AI) chips by 2024, and the company's revenue is expected to increase further in the future.
In Vietnam, Nvidia is a leading server and AI provider. Nvidia has signed an agreement with Viettel with the desire to become a partner of Vietnam in the process of improving domestic AI capacity.
The Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) is researching and developing a supercomputing system with Nvidia's A100 chip for wide application in the fields of science and technology, medicine, education, etc.
Here, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh spent a lot of time discussing with Mr. Jensen Huang, co-founder and current Chairman of Nvidia, about the global AI development trend and the very open potential for cooperation between the company and Vietnam, as well as giving suggestions for the national semiconductor strategy that Vietnam is building.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his impression of the development of Nvidia, a company founded and operated by an Asian; suggested that Nvidia continue to strengthen cooperation activities, expand investment in Vietnam in areas where the group has strengths and Vietnam is also giving high priority, and at the same time give comments and advice on policies, support human resource training, improve technological and management capacity, helping Vietnam participate more deeply in the global supply chain.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh invited the Chairman of Nvidia to visit and work in Vietnam as soon as possible, with the hope that Nvidia will soon have a manufacturing plant in Vietnam, making Vietnam the center in the Southeast Asian region.
Visiting Synopsys Company, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh was informed by Mr. Joachim Kunkel, the company's leader, that Synopsys, founded in 1986, is an electronic design automation (EDA) company, focusing on silicon design and verification, silicon intellectual property, as well as software security and quality.
Synopsys provides tools and services for the semiconductor design and manufacturing industry. In 2022, Synopsys had 19,000 employees and $5.08 billion in revenue. Synopsys aspires to create the global semiconductor ecosystem.
In Vietnam, Synopsys officially entered the market in 2016. Synopsys Vietnam has opened 4 offices in Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang, attracting nearly 500 engineers to work.
Synopsys has signed a memorandum of understanding to support training of microchip design human resources in Vietnam with Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park; wishing to expand investment cooperation with Vietnam in the production and supply of chip manufacturing software.
After learning about Synopsys' chip technology and working with the company's leaders, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that during US President Joe Biden's visit to Vietnam, the President and General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong announced that the two countries would upgrade their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership; the Prime Minister's visit aims to realize the contents of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, including the pillars of cooperation in science, technology and innovation, education and training.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh hopes that Synopsys will continue to expand its production and supply chains in Vietnam; he believes that with a long history of effective cooperation in Vietnam and with the very good political relations between the two countries, Synopsys expanding its supply and production chains in Vietnam is an objective need.
Believing that each country and each nation has different levels of development, culture, market, and conditions, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh hopes that Synopsys will adapt well to Vietnam's conditions; have technological, management, and financial solutions to help Vietnam develop quickly and sustainably.
Specifically, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked Synopsys to support and invest in developing Vietnam's National Innovation Center (NIC); participate in training high-quality human resources for Vietnam, including human resources in the electronic chip industry; and especially, hope the company continues to attract Vietnamese workers in the United States to work.
With the viewpoint of “cooperating together, winning together, benefiting together” and in the spirit of “harmonizing benefits and sharing risks”, Vietnam welcomes Synopsys and US companies to come to Vietnam to cooperate for mutual success, bringing benefits to both Synopsys and to the two countries and peoples of Vietnam and the United States.
On this occasion, witnessed by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and leaders of ministries and branches of the two countries, Synopsys signed two cooperation memorandums on developing human resources for integrated circuit (IC) design in Vietnam and on supporting the development of the Vietnamese semiconductor industry.
On the same afternoon, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also visited Meta Platforms (formerly known as Facebook) - a multinational technology corporation that owns and operates Facebook, Instagram, Threads and WhatsApp along with other products and services.
Meta is one of the most valuable companies in the world, with 2022 revenue of $116.6 billion and is among the 10 most valuable listed corporations in the United States. It is considered one of the five largest information technology companies in the United States, along with Google's parent company Alphabet, Amazon, Apple and Microsoft.
Facebook is currently a very popular social network in Vietnam. NIC and Meta signed a Memorandum of Understanding in May 2022 in the United States, witnessed by Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, to promote innovation and digital transformation activities in Vietnam.
At the meeting, Mr. Joel Kaplan, Vice President of Meta in charge of global public policy, said that before the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, Meta had started manufacturing in Vietnam some devices for the "virtual universe" metaverse (a term referring to the integrated environment linking all of the company's products and services).
However, this was interrupted due to the pandemic. The group wants to expand its investment in Vietnam, including continuing to produce metaverse devices for the coming years.
Mr. Joel Kaplan emphasized that the Vietnam Government Electronic Information Portal has become a strategic, important and effective partner of Meta in Vietnam even before the COVID-19 pandemic.
After visiting and listening to the opinions of the company's leaders, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that the future of the Vietnam - US comprehensive strategic partnership depends largely on the ability to realize the potential and opportunities between businesses of the two countries to develop investment and business in priority areas, including the contributions of US businesses in general and Meta in particular.
Based on the excellent political relationship between the two countries, the Prime Minister believes that cooperation activities with Meta will become increasingly effective and substantive, especially in key areas such as digital economy, artificial intelligence, digital content, innovation and digital transformation in enterprises...
The Prime Minister hopes that Meta will continue to provide Vietnam with more technological solutions and technology transfer; cooperate in finance to develop science and technology, innovation, and promote digital transformation; cooperate in improving governance capacity in areas where Meta has strengths; cooperate in training high-quality human resources; cooperate in preventing cybercrime, ensuring network safety and security, and increase the provision of positive and accurate information about the relationship between the two countries.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh welcomed Meta's continued cooperation with NIC as well as Vietnamese agencies and enterprises in the spirit of mutual win-win, making the best use of the Vietnamese market of 100 million people, benefiting the United States, Vietnam and the relationship between the two countries.
