(CPV) – The draw put coach Philippe Troussier and his team in Group C with the Philippines and Laos at the 2023 Southeast Asian U23 Championship.
On May 29, the Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF) conducted a draw to divide the groups for the teams participating in the 2023 Southeast Asian U23 Championship.
Participating in the 2023 Southeast Asian U23 Championship, there are 10 teams divided into 3 groups. Group A has 4 teams, Group B and C each have 3 teams.
The 10 teams are divided into 3 seed groups, based on their performance in last year's tournament. Accordingly, seed group 1 includes U23 Vietnam (reigning champion), Thailand (reigning runner-up) and Timor-Leste (third place).
Pot 2 includes Cambodia, Malaysia and the Philippines. Pot 3 includes Brunei, Indonesia, Laos and Myanmar.
According to today's draw, the U23 Vietnam team is in Group C with the Philippines and Laos. Host Thailand is in Group A with Cambodia, Brunei and Myanmar. Meanwhile, Group B will be a competition between Timor-Leste, Malaysia and Indonesia.
The 2023 Southeast Asian U23 Championship will take place from August 17 to 26, 2023 in Thailand. Teams will compete in a round-robin format to determine rankings in each group.
The three group winners and the best second-placed team from each group will advance to the semi-finals. The two semi-final winners will play in the final, while the two semi-final losers will play each other in the third-place match.
According to the schedule, the Vietnam U23 team will have its opening match on August 20 against Laos U23, and the second match on August 22 against the Philippines U23./.
