On the evening of July 29, the closing ceremony and award ceremony of the ISMA 2025 International Student Film Festival took place at Van Lang University (HCMC), concluding a five-day series of academic and artistic activities. The ceremony was attended by nearly 100 lecturers, students, artists and experts from 8 countries around the world .
The work "Used to Be Green" by a group of students from Van Lang University, using environmental data and artificial intelligence to tell the story of urban transformation, won first prize.
This year’s festival features 121 entries from 37 universities in South Korea, Japan, the United States, France, Thailand, China, Iran, and Vietnam. The entries compete in four categories: short film, animation, interactive art, and AI narrative.
At the award ceremony, the organizing committee announced 36 outstanding works, including 4 first prizes, 9 second prizes, 15 third prizes and 8 awards. The four first prizes of ISMA 2025 clearly reflect the diversity in approaches to contemporary art, belonging to students from Vietnam, China and the US.
Among them, the work "Used to Be Green" by a group of students Ngo Quoc Khang, Nguyen Tran Gia Bao, Huynh Phuong Vy, majoring in digital design, Van Lang University, won first prize in the category of narrative using artificial intelligence.
MSc. Phan Quan Dung, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Head of the ISMA 2025 Organizing Committee, said that this is a prestigious annual event, with the mission of honoring young film talents, promoting cultural exchange and inspiring creativity in the global student community.
With the theme “Rivers - Environment and People”, students demonstrated that through technology and storytelling, new understandings of the world can be fostered, transcending borders and languages.
4 works won first prize at this year's film festival
The jury, consisting of 13 international experts, scored according to 6 criteria: script content, art direction, visual techniques, art design, sound and music processing, and innovation in presentation.
"Student cinema is not only a starting point, but also a strong voice, reflecting the spirit of the times, bringing many new and profound perspectives of young people" - Master Dung shared.
This year, Vietnam has achieved much success with 10 award-winning works from Van Lang University and Ho Chi Minh City University of Theatre and Cinema. This is also the first year Vietnam has hosted this art event.
