The information was announced at the international conference Open RAN Connect 2025 organized by Viettel on the morning of October 15.
Specifically, the prestigious Magic Quadrant for CSP 5G RAN Infrastructure Solutions 2025 report shows that Viettel High Tech is the only enterprise in Southeast Asia to be honored in the report, classified in the group of "Enterprises with specialized strengths".
This recognition is not only Viettel's own achievement but also a testament to Vietnam's aspiration and ability to master technology.
Gartner experts conducted an independent, comprehensive assessment based on two rigorous criteria: "completeness of vision" and "ability to execute."
This position affirms Viettel's pioneering role in successfully commercializing 5G Open RAN base stations based on ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit) chipset platforms with proven large-scale deployment capabilities.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Nguyen Vu Ha, Deputy General Director of Viettel Group affirmed: “Viettel is the first network operator in the world to deploy 5G Open RAN with quality equivalent to the world's leading suppliers. We are committed to providing the highest quality products to serve global mobile telecommunications operators.”
Viettel said that this year the company will deploy 2,500 5G stations (2,300 stations have been completed) in many provinces and cities such as Hanoi , Ninh Binh, Gia Lai, Lam Dong... These devices have demonstrated optimal performance, especially the ability to save energy up to 24% compared to similar devices.
According to Mr. Nguyen Minh Quang, General Director of Viettel High Tech, after more than 10 years of investment in research, Viettel's efforts have been recognized for the first time by a prestigious global organization like Gartner.
He affirmed that this is the key factor for Vietnam to master strategic technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) and semiconductors, laying a solid foundation for Viettel to expand its global market share.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Nguyen Khac Lich, Director of the Department of Information Technology Industry (Ministry of Science and Technology) emphasized that 5G has been identified as a strategic technology product since 2019 with the goal of Vietnam having to master the design, research and production.
Mr. Lich said that to realize this goal, the Law on Digital Technology Industry was passed by the National Assembly, identifying this as a fundamental industry and creating outstanding incentive mechanisms and policies.
Specifically, strategic 5G projects with investment capital from only VND6,000 billion will enjoy a tax rate of 5% for 37 years, tax exemption for 6 years and a 50% reduction for the next 13 years.
These policies also include exemption from all land and water surface taxes and personal income tax for high-quality human resources for 5 years. These are special investment incentives, which are only applied to other industries with capital scale of 30,000 billion VND or more.
"You have proven that Vietnamese people can master difficult, complex technologies at a high level and bring Make in Vietnam products to the world," Director Nguyen Khac Lich praised.
At the event, Mr. Akash Palkhiwala, Chief Financial Officer and Global Operations Officer of Qualcomm, congratulated Viettel on successfully deploying a large-scale 5G Open RAN network with more than 2,300 transmission stations and emphasized that this is the world's first commercial O-RAN network using Qualcomm's 5G RAN platform.
He said Qualcomm and Viettel share a vision of an open and flexible 5G connectivity platform that delivers three key benefits: Flexibility for operators, cost efficiency through modular architecture, and fostering innovation by reducing barriers to entry.
The combination of radio units (RUs) and distributed units (DUs) developed by Viettel and Qualcomm's platform has created a network with performance comparable to traditional architecture.
