Vietnam - Korea: Signing many Memorandums of Understanding on EPR cooperation

Accordingly, within the framework of the 16th Vietnam - Korea Environment Ministers' Conference in Seoul, Korea, witnessed by Vietnamese Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dang Quoc Khanh and Korean Minister of Environment Han Wha-Jin, Director of the Vietnam National EPR Council Office Phan Tuan Hung signed two important Memorandums of Understanding on promoting EPR and circular economy with leaders of the Korea Environment Corporation (KECO) and the Korea Resource Circulation Service Agency (KORA).

With KECO, the two parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Circular Economy (CE) and EPR. The purpose of this Memorandum of Understanding is to establish a long-term cooperation in promoting recycling and circular economy through the EPR mechanism.

With KORA, the two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation to promote the implementation of EPR in Vietnam. The goal is to build cooperation to effectively implement the EPR system in Vietnam; at the same time, cooperate to implement greenhouse gas emission reduction projects within the framework of Vietnam's EPR system.

Through these Memorandums of Understanding, KECO and KORA agree to cooperate and support the National EPR Council Office to enhance capacity, share experiences in implementing extended producer responsibility (EPR) regulations and jointly implement joint projects of mutual interest according to assigned tasks and powers.

The signing of 2 Memorandums of Understanding on cooperation on circular economy and EPR between the National EPR Council Office and partners KECO and KORA is a cooperation content within the framework of comprehensive cooperation in the environmental field between the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam and the Ministry of Environment of Korea, signed by Minister Dang Quoc Khanh and Minister Han Wha-Jin in 2023 in Hanoi .

Before the signing ceremony, the National EPR Council Office and KECO, KORA had many meetings and exchanges. At these meetings, representatives of Korean organizations affirmed that with the accumulated experience, they will contribute to supporting the National EPR Council Office in particular and Vietnam in general to successfully implement the EPR policy. In addition, in the coming time, these partners hope to support and cooperate with Vietnam in the process of implementing the greenhouse gas emission reduction policy. Because, currently, the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and circular economy is the goal of the world in general and of Korea and Vietnam in particular.
