"We focused for a few weeks and followed the plan. No players were injured. The whole team just completed a training trip in Japan, thereby accumulating more experience," said coach Okiyama Masahiko of the Vietnam U20 women's team.
The 2026 AFC U20 Women's Championship Group B qualifiers will take place from August 6. The group includes the host team Vietnam, along with Singapore, Hong Kong and Kyrgyzstan. At a press conference before the opening match, coach Okiyama Masahiko affirmed that the Vietnam U20 Women's Team is ready for the big goal.
The Japanese strategist also emphasized that he does not feel pressured because the U20 Vietnam women's team had reached the final round under the leadership of previous coach Akira Ijiri. Instead, he and his coaching staff will focus on preparing the team as best as possible and not pay too much attention to the opponents.
"Our goal is to reach the finals. No matter how our opponents prepare, we always keep our focus on ourselves," he said.
