Vietnam team received bad news about Nguyen Xuan Son

(Dan Tri) - According to the confirmation of coach Vu Hong Viet (Nam Dinh Club), striker Xuan Son was not registered in the first phase of V-League this season. He may also be absent from the Vietnam national team until at least early 2026.

Nam Dinh FC will start the new season with the National Super Cup match against Hanoi Police FC at Thien Truong Stadium (old Nam Dinh) on August 9. Before the match, public attention focused on the condition of striker Xuan Son.

The Brazilian striker has returned home to recuperate. According to coach Vu Hong Viet, Xuan Son will not be registered in the first phase of the V-League this season.

The coach of Nam Dinh Club confirmed: “Currently, Xuan Son is recovering in Brazil to recover his health. This player is not sure to play in the first leg of this season. I hope to welcome Xuan Son in the second leg.”

Xuan Son broke both the tibia and fibula of his right leg in the first leg of the AFF Cup 2024 against Thailand. He then underwent surgery and recovered in Vietnam for the past half year. In July, the striker born in 1997 asked for permission to return to Brazil to visit his family and recover in his homeland. He is expected to return to Vietnam in mid-August.

Thus, Xuan Son is unlikely to be able to play for the Vietnamese national team until the end of 2025. This player can only return in early 2026.

During this transfer period, Nam Dinh Club welcomed several quality foreign players such as Kyle Hudlin (2.06m tall), Mahmoud Eid and Njabulo Blom.

Meanwhile, coach Mano Polking of the Hanoi Police Club shared: “I believe fans have waited a long time to see domestic teams compete. I think Nam Dinh and Hanoi Police Club are the best teams in Vietnam at the moment. Both have many national team players and quality foreign players. I hope that Hanoi Police Club will win the Super Cup on their opponent's field.”
