On September 24, in Da Nang, The R&A (The Royal and Ancient Golf Club) and the Asia- Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) officially announced the Women's Asia- Pacific Amateur Golf Championship (WAAP). The tournament will take place at Hoiana Shores Golf Club, Vietnam from March 6-9, 2025.
This is the first time Vietnam has hosted a prestigious tournament that has built the careers of major champions such as Yuka Saso, Patty Tavatanakit, Ayaka Furue and former world number one golfer Jeeno Thitikul.
The Women's Amateur Asia Pacific (WAAP) Championship will take place at Hoiana Shores, Vietnam
Hoiana Shores Golf Course is located on a beautiful beach, not only promoting the beauty of Cu Lao Cham Island in particular and Da Nang in general, but also contributing to creating challenges for golfers participating in the tournament with sea breezes and sandy beaches on the last nine holes.
Commenting on the tournament, R&A Chief Executive Martin Slumbers said: “The Asia-Pacific Ladies Amateur Championship offers top amateur golfers a world-class playground on some of the region’s most renowned courses. Golf in Vietnam has grown exponentially in recent years and we are very excited to host the tournament in the country for the first time. Hoiana Shores Golf Club promises to be a great destination and a great challenge for top golfers.”
President of the Asia Pacific Golf Confederation Taimur Hassan Amin expressed his delight that the seventh edition of the tournament will be held for the first time in Vietnam. Vietnam is one of the fastest growing golf markets in the world, and hosting the WAAP here will certainly help promote the development of the sport in your territory. With the top female golfers in the region, the event promises to be a memorable week.”
Speaking at the announcement ceremony, Mr. Vu Nguyen, Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Golf Association emphasized: “The Vietnam Golf Association is very pleased that the Asia-Pacific Women’s Amateur Championship will be held at the beautiful Hoiana Shores resort. Although this tournament does not have a long history, it is a prestigious and famous tournament in producing Major champions of professional golf. WAAP not only inspires future generations of female golfers but also brings champions career-changing opportunities through being granted special permission to compete in three major women’s championships and other top amateur tournaments.”
The Asia Pacific Ladies Amateur Championship was developed by the Asia Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) and The R&A to nurture talent and provide opportunities for outstanding female golfers in the region to compete on the international stage, while also providing opportunities to participate in three Major Championships. The seventh edition of the prestigious tournament will take place at Hoiana Shores, Vietnam from 6-9 March 2025. The 2025 WAAP champion will receive entry into the AIG Women's Open, The Amundi Evian Championship and The Chevron Championship, along with the Hana Financial Group Championship, ISPS Handa Australian Open, the 122nd Women's Amateur Championship, and an invitation to the Augusta National (ANWA) Women's Amateur Championship.
