Vietnam lost to Germany at the women's volleyball world championship

(NLDO) - Despite a 0-3 defeat against the powerful German team, the Vietnamese team still left bright spots at the Women's Volleyball World Championship.

Seeing the world's third-ranked Poland lose a game to Vietnam, the German women's volleyball team - ranked 11th in the world - did not want to fall into that rut and advocated a "quick win" to quickly resolve the second group stage match. The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) homepage also said that if they underestimate the Vietnamese team, the German girls will have to pay a heavy price.

The actual development of the match showed that everything was within the calculations of coach Giulio Cesare Bregoli and his players. The advantage of height and strength helped the German team control the match, although there were many situations where they were somewhat flustered by the strong counterattack from the Vietnamese team.

Nhu Quynh did not show her full strength like in the match against Poland.

In the first set, after a long enough time for Vietnam to catch up at 4-4, 7-7 and 12-12, the German team suddenly accelerated, leaving the score far behind with powerful attacks from Emilia Weske (1.88 m tall), captain Camilla Weitxel (1.95 m) or Lina Alsmeier (1.89 m). The first set ended with a score of 25-18 in favor of the German team.

Having overcome the first challenge, the German team played with much more confidence, creating a gap of 8-10 points over Vietnam in the second set. At this point, the Vietnamese coaching staff adjusted their tactics by letting the players play slowly and organizing their defense better to score 5 consecutive points, narrowing the gap to only 17-24. The German team was not shaken, winning the sixth set-point to end the second set at 25-17.

With nothing left to lose, the Vietnamese team played very well in the third set, at times taking the lead over the Germans. However, the hope of finding a win like the match against Poland did not come true for Thanh Thuy and her teammates because of their pragmatic play, exploiting the advantage of the opponent's lightning-fast smashes to score points from all positions on the court.

Thanh Thuy scored 17 points in the whole match.

The score chase in the third game, therefore, only made the match more exciting before the German team won 25-21, ending the match after 81 minutes with a score of 3-0, officially winning the ticket to the next round after two consecutive wins.

Thanh Thuy was the best player in the match with 17 points, but she was also blocked many times by her opponent with powerful smashes at the net. Hoang Thi Kieu Trinh scored the second highest score for Vietnam, with 6 points.

"We lost to Germany today, but the whole team tried their best and showed what they had," Kieu Trinh said after the match. "We thank the fans for always supporting us and are determined to win against Kenya in the last match."

The slim hope of qualifying for the next round was not achieved and coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet's team still has to face Kenya in two days to find a historic victory in the world tournament. The learning target is almost complete, Vietnam is determined to avoid the bottom position in the group and at the same time, try their best to win as a luggage to leave.
