In recent days, people in Viet Yen town, Bac Giang province have been happier because in the joy of welcoming the new year 2025, they have witnessed the completion of many traffic works and urban highlights of the town.

From a purely agricultural district, Viet Yen has grown into a key industrial zone, becoming a town 2 years ahead of schedule. With strong potential, the town is making efforts to fulfill the criteria, striving to meet the conditions to establish a city under the province in the very near future.

The year 2024 takes place in a difficult context when the world and regional situation has many complicated developments. The consequences of natural disasters and floods have greatly affected people's lives.

Under the close leadership of Party committees at all levels; effective supervision of elected agencies; drastic and flexible direction and management of authorities at all levels; close coordination and solidarity of all levels and sectors, together with the positive and important contributions of the business community and people in the town, the socio-economic situation of Viet Yen town has achieved many important results.

Specifically: The growth rate of production value is estimated at 29.7% (leading all districts and cities in the province); the scale of production value accounts for 71% of the whole province; the state budget revenue in the area is estimated at more than 1.9 trillion VND (of which, the budget balance revenue is 727 billion VND, reaching 143% of the estimate).

During the year, the locality attracted 35 investment projects, including 8 domestic direct investment (DDI) projects with a total registered capital of over VND3 trillion and 27 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects with a total registered capital of USD199.3 million. Infrastructure, especially transport infrastructure, continued to be invested in a synchronous and modern direction, increasing connectivity and development linkages. Many public spaces and urban highlights were completed and put into use.

Many breakthrough indicators

Looking back at the development process from a purely agricultural district to a key industrial zone of Viet Yen, an important milestone was in 2003, Dinh Tram Industrial Park - the first industrial park of the province was started to be built. From an initial industrial park, Viet Yen now has 4 industrial parks including: Quang Chau, Dinh Tram, Van Trung, Viet Han with hundreds of domestic and foreign enterprises investing in production and business. In 2023, Viet Yen's production value (GTSX) increased by 19.94%, leading 10 districts, towns, and cities.

The total production value created in the area accounts for more than 68% of the province, of which industry accounts for more than 78%; the average growth rate in the 2020-2023 period reached 25.56%, exceeding the set target. The town's budget revenue in 2023 reached more than 3.4 trillion VND, accounting for 20% of the province's budget.

With its potential for industrial development, Viet Yen continues to closely follow the leadership's policies, with unanimity and determination to turn the locality into a town. Meeting the people's expectations, on December 13, 2023, Viet Yen was recognized as a town, 2 years earlier than the target set by the province and district.

This is a milestone not only for the Party Committee, government and people of Viet Yen town but also marks a new development step for Bac Giang province.

From February 1, 2024 to present, Viet Yen town has systematically operated the urban government, in which the key is to change the thinking and actions of each cadre, party member, and citizen; taking people and businesses as the center of service along with building a friendly government.

Viet Yen has always been at the forefront of administrative procedure reform, maintaining the top position in the District Competitiveness Index (DDCI) for many years.

To make Viet Yen town a happy destination

Mr. Nguyen Dai Luong - Chairman of the Town People's Committee said that currently, Viet Yen always prioritizes preserving and promoting the value of heritages, renovating and embellishing Bo Da pagoda, restoring the cultural space of Tho Ha ancient village..., gradually exploiting economic efficiency, forming tourism - heritage services; Building urban areas, entertainment, shopping, logistics centers to serve industrial development.

The town also reviews, updates, and strengthens planning management; improves the criteria for a type 3 urban area, soon meets the conditions to become a provincial city according to the set goals; consolidates and improves the quality of social services and infrastructure serving people's lives, covers the entire town with lighting systems; continues to renovate and upgrade traffic infrastructure and social housing; embellishes and expands community cultural spaces; improves all aspects of people's lives, contributing to making Viet Yen a happy destination for people and businesses.

By 2025, Viet Yen urban area is expected to meet the criteria to become a town. By 2030, it will meet the criteria of a type III urban area and become a city directly under Bac Giang province with an urbanization rate of about 60 - 75% and reach about 75 - 85% by 2045.

The town develops Viet Yen urban area according to the general orientation of Bac Giang province with new positions and trends in the context of international integration and globalization; building a dynamic urban area associated with a synchronous and modern socio-economic infrastructure system and a complete service network; proactively and effectively responding to natural disasters and climate change.

Viet Yen urban area is an urban area in the key economic zone in the Southwest of Bac Giang province, with the main development drivers including industry, urban areas and trade and services; it is a gateway urban area and a road traffic hub in the Southwest of Bac Giang province, playing an important role in security and defense of the Hanoi capital region.
