This is the information announced by Mr. Dang Ngoc Hoa, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Airlines Corporation - JSC (VNA) at the 2025 Annual General Meeting of Shareholders held this morning, June 25.
According to Mr. Hoa, the plan to invest in 50 narrow-body aircraft within the fleet development strategy for the period 2025 - 2035 is one of the important pillars to enhance operational capacity, modernize the fleet and expand the scale of operations of the Corporation.
“This investment is aimed at expanding the short- and medium-haul network in key markets such as Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia and domestic markets - where passenger demand is growing rapidly and competition is increasingly fierce.
The fleet configuration is divided into two groups of narrow-body aircraft equivalent to the A321 and A320 series - suitable for the existing infrastructure and flexible operating orientation of the Corporation.
Up to now, the Corporation has deployed contractor selection, negotiated and signed a contract to purchase 50 B737-8 aircraft with aircraft manufacturer Boeing with a total investment of more than VND92,000 billion in accordance with regulations," Mr. Ha informed.

In addition, also this year, the Corporation will consider and implement the project to invest in 20 wide-body aircraft, and at the same time develop plans to supplement aircraft resources for the period 2028-2030.
In order to supplement the current shortage of aircraft, Mr. Le Hong Ha, General Director of Vietnam Airlines Corporation, said that they will continue to dry lease, wet lease and engine lease to serve passengers during peak times...
In parallel with the addition of aircraft fleet, in 2025, the Corporation will also review and update the plan for liquidation of old aircraft.
Accordingly, in the 2021-2024 period, VNA sold 5 old A321CEO aircraft, and is expected to liquidate 6 old A321CEO aircraft and 6 ATR72 aircraft in 2025 (lower than the previous plan in which VNA planned to sell 32 aircraft, including 26 A321CEO aircraft and 6 ATR72 aircraft in the 2021-2025 period).
The reason is that, currently, in the context of upgrading Con Dao airport (the main operating airport of ATR fleet), Ba Ria - Vung Tau province has no specific plan, the operating demand has changed, so the airline will continue to maintain the operation of ATR aircraft until the end of 2025.
Furthermore, the current market for leasing and selling aircraft is increasing in price and supply is scarce, so the sale of the remaining 6 aircraft will be temporarily postponed to ensure operational resources.
“VNA will continue to review its plan to sell used aircraft to ensure that the sale of aircraft is at a competitive price, fully recovers capital costs, and is consistent with operating needs in the context of a shortage of aircraft due to the recall of PW engines and disruptions in the global supply chain. Leasing and purchasing aircraft in the market is facing many difficulties,” said Mr. Ha.
