VinFast officially broke ground on its first electric vehicle factory in Tamil Nadu state, India. |
VinFast's construction of a factory in the world's third largest automobile market affirms the potential and strong determination of Vietnam's number one electric vehicle manufacturer in its global greening strategy.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Mr. MKStalin, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu; Mr. TRB Rajaa, Minister of Industry, Government of Tamil Nadu; Mr. V. Arun Roy, Minister of Industry, Member of Parliament for Thoothukudi; Member of Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu, senior officials and representatives of the State Government, and leaders of VinFast in India.
The 160-hectare integrated electric vehicle manufacturing plant is located in the industrial estate of the Tamil Nadu Industrial Promotion Corporation (SIPCOT) in Thoothukudi, southern Tamil Nadu. The project has an initial investment of USD 500 million over 5 years, with an expected capacity of 150,000 vehicles per year, creating employment opportunities for 3,000 - 3,500 local workers.
Along with strengthening cooperation with the world's leading suppliers, VinFast also plans to promote the localization rate, contributing to creating positive momentum for local economic growth.

We believe that the project will contribute significantly to local economic growth, providing employment opportunities and skill development for the people of Tamil Nadu.”

India is one of the key markets in VinFast's global expansion plan. The investment in building a factory in Tamil Nadu state is not only to seize opportunities from the world's third largest automobile market, but also affirms VinFast's global stature, an important addition to the manufacturing ecosystem around the world, including the existing factory in Vietnam, the factory under construction in the US and the factory to be built in Indonesia.
In addition to opening the factory, VinFast also plans to establish a nationwide dealer network to build brand awareness and quickly connect with customers across India.
