The news that VinFast may soon launch a completely new hybrid car model is causing a stir, even though it was only revealed accidentally. Specifically, at a product introduction event of a tire brand, which is the original tire supplier for most VinFast electric car models, images of some new products of the Vietnamese car company appeared.
Although the new tire lines do not name the vehicle, the illustrations show a car with an unmistakable front-end design. The wing-shaped positioning lights and the faint V logo are clear signs that this is a VinFast product, but it is identified as a hybrid car.

Initial images show that this hybrid model has a front design quite similar to the current VF8 electric SUV. In addition, the event also revealed information about a number of other new models, including Limo 7, which is expected to be a high-end version of the Limo Green line. Electric models such as VF6, VF7 and VF9 using a new platform were also mentioned. Currently, VinFast has not yet provided any official information to confirm these models.
VinFast's entry into the hybrid car market is a big surprise. Since July 2022, the company has officially announced that it will stop selling gasoline-powered cars to focus entirely on producing pure electric cars. This decision has helped VinFast achieve certain successes in the domestic market with a diverse range of products, from electric motorbikes to cars.

However, on the other hand, this is considered a reasonable strategic move. The hybrid car market in Vietnam is growing rapidly and is expected to explode even more, especially when promoted by the new special consumption tax policy, expected to be applied from 2026.
It is still unclear which technology group VinFast's future hybrid cars will belong to. The market currently has many different configurations, from mild hybrid (MHEV), self-charging hybrid (HEV) to plug-in hybrid (PHEV). Each type of technology has a different level of electrification intervention in operation. In addition, there is also the extended range electric vehicle (REEV/EREV), where the gasoline engine only plays the role of a generator, but this type is not popular in Vietnam.

According to many debates, the PHEV (plug-in hybrid) powertrain could be the most suitable choice for VinFast. The company's biggest advantage is that it owns a network of public charging stations across the country, solving the battery charging problem for PHEV users. The popular PHEV segment in Vietnam also has a lot of room for development, while the MHEV and HEV groups are currently dominated by Japanese car manufacturers.
Previously, around 2021, the image of a car with a similar design to the VinFast Lux SA but with an electric car-style front end appeared at Magna Steyr's testing center in Austria. Therefore, VinFast adding a hybrid version at this time is considered a reasonable move to diversify products and capture market trends.
