Ancelotti said leading MU is not easy. |
In a conversation with BBC , Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, MU's head coach from 2018 to 2021, recalled a memorable moment when he faced Everton, the team Ancelotti was in charge of at the time. While the two were standing in the technical area, the referee told Ancelotti to step back and joked: "Unless you want to take Ole's seat." Ancelotti immediately replied: "No, no. The pressure there is too much. I can't stand it."
The statement, although humorous, revealed the truth that even one of the greatest managers in history feels a special weight when it comes to the hot seat at Old Trafford.
Ancelotti has won titles at AC Milan, Chelsea, PSG, Bayern Munich and three Champions League titles with Real Madrid. He is currently leading the Brazilian team towards the 2026 World Cup. However, Ancelotti still sees MU as a different task because of the pressure from tradition, media and huge expectations.
Solskjaer said: "At MU, you are the face of the club. You think about the players, the fans, everything. It's a privilege, but also a pressure unlike anywhere else."
The former Norwegian striker also shared the moment he was fired after a series of bad matches in 2021. He said the day of the loss to Watford was the match when he knew everything was over. Solskjaer concluded: "At a club like that, you have to get good results."
After Solskjaer left, MU went through the time of Ralf Rangnick, Erik ten Hag and now Ruben Amorim but the results were still unstable, culminating in 15th place last season, the lowest in Premier League history.
